XH-A1 matched with XM2

Hey everyone apologies if this has been asked before but my situation is this. I've got the cash in place to buy the XH-A1 and Ill be selling my XL1 on ebay. Problem is I've got a bunch of weddings coming up and I usually shoot 2 camera set ups. So if I shot with the XH-A1 (standard Def) and my Xm2 how would those two look matched up?
Would i get away with it? If I wait much longer to seel my XL1 i wont get anything for it, so I've got to act sooN!

this may be a stupid question on my part..but what's an Xm2? hahaha if you ment to say your xl1 than it SHOULD work just make sure your shooting at the same frame rate on both cameras. but you should still get a second opinion, and what system are you editing it on?

I believe "XM2" is the European model number for what's known as the "GL2" in the States. I would think that you'd be able to match that pretty closely with the A1, but I don't have any experience with the A1, so that's just a guess...

ok sorry yeah the xm2 is the european version of the GL2. Im shooting at a frame rate of 25fps and editing on adobe premiere pro 1.5 soon to be cs3 when i get round to buying it.

The XM2 would not match with the A1. We wouldn't expect it to, since it's a six years old camera. The sharpness will be different, color reproduction will be different, dynamic range will be different. Especially shooting at 25p on the GL2 you're just throwing away more resolution by deinterlacing the 50i footage so it'll look even more different. My advice is to go for it anyway, shoot 50i and color correct the footage together as best you can. Most clients won't care too much.

Why would you want to get a GL2 when you can get an HV20 for less money? Plus you can use the HV20 as a Xh-A1's deck.

Oh, and besides the XM2's image looks way less like the XH-A1's than the HV20's.

ok so your saying get rid of my Xm2 and buy a HV20? thats an interesting point. With it not being a 3CCD camera though is the image still as good as the Xm2?

Surprisingly, the hv20 can get better image quality than the A1 because of the cmos ccd but it requires more than double the light. Do a search i believe there was a thread on the xh-a1 with the hv20.

Hey alex,

I've done this exact same thing although I was using a GL1 (or XM1 for euro?) and everyone is right. It won't match up at all. I suggest using the factory preset on the XH A1 to make it match a little better. They edit together fine, but you can definitely tell when you switch between cameras. I didn't expect them to match though and my clients didn't mind.

Anyways, I also recommend the HV20. I haven't used one personally, but I've seen some footage from it and if ever I needed a cheap camera to match up nicely with the A1 then without a doubt it would be the HV20.

Hope that helps!
