Well it would be ok if I used the stock quick release that came with the Bogen 503 head but I am not. I am using the larger Bogen 3273 quick release which I have on all my tripods, cameras, jib, steadicam, etc. Having a different one really throws a wammy when you are in a hurry. Unscrewing plates and such is jut not an option.
Presently I have solved the problem by using TWO #3273 quick releases sitting atop the 503 head. I have done it this way to raise the camera higher so the knobs don't hit each other...It works but it is an expensive option. I looked closely at the top of the 505 head that uses the smaller Manfrotto quick release thinking I could switch them out but that doesn't look feasible.
