XH-A1 infinity focus blurred

Hello all. Long time XH-A1 shooter from NZ.

When I am zoomed out and i rip my focus back to infinity, the image is all out of focus. As you know there is no macro on the camera and its all servo with no back focus option.

It has been dropped and fixed in the past and I complained to Canon that the lens may have been damaged but they insisted it was fine.

I am anxious as I have a new line of work coming up and do not want to spend money fixing it before I buy the new Canon camera.

Regards
I

i don't get it. Are you rolling the focus to infinity while trying to shoot something close to the camera?

uploaded a frame grab of what you are talking about. Just because the lens is set to infinity does not mean everything in frame will be in focus. It depends on where your subject is on the focus plane

Oddly enough, infinity is not always the focal plane for the very distant objects on digital cameras. I found this to occur on some Panasonic cameras, Barry Green pointed that out on the DVX100 (infinity was actually 95, I think) and someone I know who has a Samsung camera pointed out the same thing to me. Try the old "zoom-in/focus/zoom out" method to see if that helps.

There is ∞- (infinity minus) feature which goes beyond infinity focus. This is only a guess, but it seems like a fail-safe option with mass-produced prosumer cams with no backfocus adjustment.
