XH-A1 camera functions won't turn on

I lent my new XH-A1 to a friend to shoot a wedding. When I got it back, the camera functions would not turn on, though the VTR setting does turn on. I thought it might have something to do with the standby lock, but I tried that and it is not the problem. My friend is an experienced videographer, but not with the A1. When I got the camera back, the battery had been taken out of the camera with the control knob set to VTR instead of OFF. I'm wondering if that might have caused the problem.

Is there anything I might be missing here? Something in the menu maybe?
 
Phil--appreciate your help. But I tried in both the Lock and the Standby position and the result is still the same. Only the VTR functions come on.

Is there anything else I might try?
 
Have you tried the reset button?

Also,a friend had a similar problem and discovered his A1 was set to a remote function,hidden somewhere in the options after another friend had used it.

Hope you sort it anyway!
 
Thanks, Phil. Fixed it. You were right with your first guess, it was the Standby lock. My face is red -- I mistakenly was looking at the other lock situated on the handle that turns off the controls on the top of the camera. I had read the manual thoroughly but the way the manual is laid out it is possible to confuse one lock for the other (see p. 28).
 
KooKoo,I feel your pain! I would say that EVERYONE with an XHA1 has done the same thing,I have! I spent 2 days,on and off,going through every conceivable option looking for the 'fault' on my A1. In the end it was my 13 year old son that sorted it out!

Glad it's all sorted anyway :0)
