XH-A1 Battery question

Hey everbody, I am stepping into the HD world and will be getting an A1 on Thursday! I am thrilled. I have a question about batteries though. I searched for this but couldn't find anything on it.

I already have a GL2, with a couple of nice long life batteries. They are the BP-945's. I know the A1 uses BP-950G's, but from what I have seen, they look the same as my 945's. Does anyone know if they are interchangeable or not? Can I use my 945's on my new A1?

I've seen people using old GL-2/XL-2 batts with their A1's. I'll bet they (yours) work. Good luck with the new camera!

Hey, thanks for the response! That is good news. Having bought the A1, I am out of cash for quite a while, so neing able to use existing batteries in it is a real bonus! Funny thing is, the Canon website doesn't say anything about compatibility between the batteries, but when I searched their site they had a "Power Consumption" FAQ page with batteries listed, which included times for both the BP945 and the BP950G, among others,.. which would imply they are interchangeable,.. but at the same time, without confirmation, I am reluctant to put the battery in the camera and blow a fuse or something.:(

Here's the page:

I really appreciate the response. Anyone here who uses the BP945 in their A1 personnally?? Can you confirm this for me from your own experience? Better safe than sorry, eh? Thanks guys.

You can not blow the fuse, the only thing is to watch is run time. If your old battery aged, it might not power your new power hungry camera for long time.

The BP-945's work fine. I've been using a Power2000 with my A1 and it has been great. The battery states that it is "For Canon BP-945". Enjoy the camera sagemaster.

Hey, that's fantastic guys! Thanks so much! I am thrilled to hear that! It will certainly help me with costs, and really makes my purchase even that much better! Man, she's beauty too! Can wait to start shooting!!

Thanks to everyone for the responses!
