Someone could maybe answer:

Recently bought a used Canon A1, the built-in microphone looks a little loosened
Recording in auto mode, the audio level is very weak, almost no levels when captured, also very little sound on the earphones, manual mode crancks it up
but have to set it to maximum to get enough level.
Microphone broke or am i overlooking anything?

In advance my thanks

pK

The on board mic should be a little bit loose. It's a shockmount feature that Canon implemented.

Check to see whether the Attenuation switch is on. It automatically reduces level by 20 db.

I did not have any issues with my built-in microphone when I recorded in auto mode. However, my built-in microphone is loose, also. I purchased a Rode NTG-2 microphone attached via XLR interface and haven't regretted it at all. Great sound quality.

You may want to adjust the sensitivity to high and make sure your volume for your headphones is turned up...

for the earphones, the volume may be turned down. the select/set wheel by the menu button allows you to increase/decrease the earphone volume. You many also want to turn on the internal 12dB if your not getting enough recorded sound.

i thought my mic was broken to. even tried to twist it (dont do that)
