Great event last night and some very happy XF300/305 owners that are very excited to move up. This is there flagship camcorder and is exactly what people have been asking for...a big sensor (1"), strong 4K codec (10bit, 422 on regular SDXC I cards), 12G SDI output, 24p,25p,30p, 50i, 50P,60P, and alot of physical updates like 1 XLR mic input located in the frame of the handle (for onboard mic) and the 2nd one out the back.......the cameras will be shipping first part of December....$6999USD.....

Checked out the camera at NAB NY last month. Wish the camera had a lens that did not ramp so much (f2.8 - f4.5).

Well, for most last night it was not an issue....the camera gets up to 3200ISO clean so they said they'd just set it for F4.5 and work with that if they were doing alot of zooming......

I had a play with a DOF calculator and there is not that much difference between the 1", 1/2" and 1/3" sensors when you factor in different lens limitations. If the 1" sensor cameras had a constant f2.8 it would be a different story but as it stands, f4.5 on a 1" sensor is pretty close to f2.8 on a 1/2" sensor. At least not enough to really make a difference. If the 1" sensor can help with the noise reduction then it is better but it is not helping that much if the lens used has to be slower.

Yeah, the 1" sensor isn't necessarily better for either depth of field control or low light capability compared to similar sized cameras. I would have to take Jim's word on the ISO. Of course, my primary comparison is the XC-15 which was also pretty clean up to 3200 ISO, but the image would fall apart with movement due to the massive amounts of noise reduction taking place. Still, the XF705 lens appears to give about an extra stop worth of performance and I am guessing that the sensor is a better design for video.
