XF300 date/time burnin on card

Love this camera, but one question: I just had a client request burned in date/time onto card they provide. Yes, lawyers. Tried display date/time and output ON in custom display and nothing. Output must be to card directly. Dropping this question a couple of places in hope that my dimmness is the problem and it can be done.
 
Rainer from dvinfonet has a XF100 and has the answer, now confirmed on my XF300


it's the same as the XF100, it's really deep in the menu: Custom functions>Other functions>Character Rec>0n/off.


So simple. So obscurely buried. So rarely needed. It even gives you a bright red indicator onscreen that it's actively recording characters. Fantastic, then!
