xf300/305 for aerial work

I'm on location and the possibility of shooting some aerials from a helicopter has come up. I'm using a XF300 and have mostly been shooting 30F and 1/60 shutter. This looks less videoish to us than shooting with the shutter off which defaults to 1/30 shutter. But since the final project will have some 60i sources, etc. I'm thinking of shooting 60i at 1920x1080 and maximum data rate to give me more motion samples in case we decide to slow it down. If I knew all our material would be progressive, I'd be more reluctant to go to interlaced, but it should definitely give us smoother results if we slow it down.

There is no special mount and we'll be going hand held with the door off and hoping we get some reasonably smooth material. If time and mount points allow, I may try to put together some sort of bungy rig to stabilize it in the door. Some material will be from fairly high up or shooting at wide angle toward the horizon so the scenery won't be moving through the frame too fast, but some will be mountains within fairly close range or shooting down at forests that are only a few hundred feet below, so I'm wondering about motion effects from the GOP codec as well as issues related to rolling shutter.

As background, we've had good results shooting HDCam with a mount, but terrible results from a Sony Z1 several years back. Basically with the Z1, we were shooting footage low and fairly fast over ice fields and the HDV codec just gagged on all the detail. It looked great in the LCD or viewfinder since we were seeing it before compression, but when we pulled it up to edit the codec had just turned everything to mush. Aghhh!

So, since we've just started shooting with these cameras, a few questions:
1. I know people here generally like progressive, but do you see any other negatives to shooting 60i for this particularly if we decide to slow it down?
2. Does anyone have reason to believe that I'll have any problems with the rolling shutter giving me a jello effect or the codec dropping resolution due to the high detail scenery zipping by?

Conjecture is welcome, but of course any real world experience with how well the codec holds up and rolling shutter issues is particularly useful.

Thanks for the input.
