XF100 log and transfer

So I shot some video on the XF305, copied all the files from the card to a folder on my MacPro, took the install CD, got the plug in successfully installed and brought video into FCP ProRes LT by setting the log and transfer preferences under "Canon XF Plugin" to ProRes LT.

Fast forward one month. Now I have XF100 footage and copied all the files from the card to a folder on my MacPro. This is all I get:

"CONTENTS" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.

This happens when I pick the CONTENTS folder, the CLIPS001 folder or, for example, if I drill down to the actual clip folder, AA0086 which contains an SIF, MXF, CIF, another MXF, another SIF and an XMF file.

Is the FCP plugin different for the XF305 and XF100? That makes no sense. MPEG Streamclip won't do anything with the files.

Guessing you're referring to FCP7; if you wish to download your XF100 footage to FCPX you'll get the same "unsupported file" message that you noted in your first post. The only workaround that I have found is to use a video converter, however many of them advertise conversion of AVCHD files to Pro-Rez but do not work with the Canon wrapper. I did find one reasonably priced converter that does work- Foxreal video converter for mac ($35). It does the job, but has a tendency to freeze if too many files are loaded. It's a temporary work around for me until Canon-Apple develop support for the XF100.

I was stoked the day FCPX was released, and increasingly frustrated as the hours, then days passed, and I was unable to find a solution to my unsupported XF100. It's unnecessarily time consuming, but I must say I am a much happier person these days.

well
i do this week many footages (3000) from the XF-300 to my Edius 6.X
its all MXF-Files there are all complete suportet.
Works fine,
perhaps u give Edius a chance ?

Hi,

I created a little workflow tool that will let you transfer XF100 footage to a format FCPX will play nice with. It's fast and it's free - and while still under development, it does the basic job for me at the moment ;-)

I have no clue whether it will work for 300 series - but it's worth a shot I guess..

Check it out at my blog, http://pika.dk/?p=406

/Cheers

Hi again,

Just for info - one of the users on my blog reported that he used my tool successfully with XF300 material getting it into FCPX :-)
