hey guys, on this link: http://wikitune.com/tag/fcp/
it sounds like the footage from the xf100 will be able to drop straight onto a timeline in FCP without transcoding of any sort... am i reading that wrong?
one of the things that has been so appealing to me to purchase the ex1 is that i can start editing right away without transcoding (that is, if i understand that camera correctly)... but if the xf100 can do this, man, that saves a ton of money...
thanks for the help

No one answered because there is confusion as to what the work flow will be. The Canon XF software was not included with the test cams, and they had trouble dropping it into FCP. Most people expect this to be cleared up, but the proof is in the delivery.

FCP does not natively support canon's mxf files. Premiere cs5 does, as does Avid, but not FCP. The xf utility included with the camera will allow for transcoding to prores in the log & transfer window. Another option is to rewrap the fils to xdcam 422, but i'm not sure of the workflow as I transcode everything to prores 422. I believe you can just select 'native' in the l&t preferences window and it will read the canon files as Sony xdcam 422 50Mbps. Either way, you need the plugin included with the xf cameras.

I just finished editing a short promo for the XF105 on FCP. The files required (very brief) transcoding, and irritatingly, Canon's FCP plugin version 1.1, which I could only find on Canon's Singapore site. It's a good thing I had the XF300 drivers installed or it would have been an even bigger pain.
Here's the promo in case anyone is interested:
