Hi guys, I write here to explain my problem with my xf100 camera. I have got a sandisk extreme compact flash card (32gb), 45 mb/s writing and reading. It is listed as compatible with xf100 on canon website.
so, one day I started to rec on my cf, I took about 200 clips in fullhd 50mbps quality, for a total duration of 20 minutes. Some of these clips were short duration, 3-4 seconds , and two clips of 4 seconds have been damaged. On the camera I saw a "?" Symbol on their thumbnails , and Im not able to open them. At the same way, I cannot transfer them 2 on my pc becuase it says to me: "failed to copy these elements(2 clips).

So, now i wanna ask another question. Is my camera damaged? Is my cf card damaged? Or is it normal? Normal that I rec short clips and maybe the buffering goes to be weak, i dont know. I appreciate all of your advices. Thanks in advance

Most probably corrupt files on the card. It's unfortunately not all that unusual, although I've never had it happen with my XF100. Can you copy the files using a card reader? If so, there are various video recovery tools, like this one, which you can try out for free for 50% of the clip, but is way overpriced if you want to pay for recovering 100% of the clip in one go (hint).

Hi Rainer, and thank you for your answer. By the way, no, I'm not able to copy the files using a card reader cause it appears an error message on my PC while I'm trying to transfer the clips.

Do you mean that it's a common problem? Has other owners had this kind of problems?

I've never had any problems with my Sandisk cards for my XF100 except for one time a temporary 1 second glitch. I've never imported footage from the camera, but always use a card reader.

I frequently reformat them in-camera, and once in a while I run a standard disk utility on them - but to date there's never been a problem that needed repair. However, the cards I use are now three years old and so I've begun not trusting them as much. I've begun replacing them, and whenever possible I use dual recording with a newer card when using one of those older ones.

The older ones I use are the SanDisk Extreme 60MB/s, the new ones I'm purchasing are what I assume to be the current version - listed as 120MB/s and UDMA 7.

Your issue has made me more paranoid about using them, and it's also time to run a disk utility again on them :-)

Has other owners had this kind of problems?
Not AFAIK a problem related to this camera. CF cards are supposed to be more reliable than SD, but nothing's perfect, that's mainly why the dual record option. Sandisk cards come with some sort of free recovery offer, but I've never had to resort to it. If your computer can see the card even if it can't read the files it's worth trying recovery software. I try to keep the cards in the camera as much as possible; I think the pins on the cards are more likely to be damaged so that the card becomes unusable than the USB contacts. I don't have a "use by" date on my cards, some are three years old, but I'm in a low humidity area and I'd replace them if they had any sort of problem.
