IF ONLY....Sony would make a full size 2/3 chip w/ SXS cards
Just like they did with the Sony DSR-570

the key here is SXS not disk. and 2/3 chip.
and no.......Pan. HPX500 will not cut it.

anyone?

thanks, Paul

I don't think Sony is in the business of releasing a camera for $12,000 that will take away sales of cameras that cost $30,000 or twice that. Sony won't make a camera that networks will buy instead of their XDCAM HD and CineAlta series. However a shoulder mount EX camera is something I think we will see soon. It will most likely be the same chipset but with a form-factor like a PDW-F350. Just a guess.

The SxS recording is rumored to be added with the PDW-700, as a dongle, an attachment just like the JVC new cameras. The Technology is there, its just up to Sony.

yeah....well....Sony made the BVW600 2/3 chip and then come out with the DSR-570 2/3 to replace beta cam.
they can make a EX3 full size cam w/ 2/3chip and SXS.

I want a 2/3" camera shooting 35mbps 1920x1080. Whether it be Disc or SxS.. i dont really care, both would be amazing.. but i doubt it.

As much as i love the 50mbps codec coming off the 700, the 35mbps one is pretty darn amazing too.

While it would be nice to have 50Mbps 4:2:2 native I agree, I could live with 35Mbps native as on a camera that size you could easily mount a nanoFlash on the side with Velcro and get up to 100Mbps.

What I would really like on a camera at that level though is a high end (and high quality) SD codec built in. Something to at least compete with DVCPRO 50 without having to re-process in post. Clip Browser shows us that software down convet can be pretty lame.

A number of things I'd love to see on a potential EX5 aside from image/codec upgrades would be a removable viewfinder, proper shoulder mount balance, get rid of the native mic, native SDHC recording, combined camera/media mode, host USB for dumping direct to hard-drives, and a few more switches like a manually tunable white balance outside of PPs.
