Xa10

I've been looking into buying a camera for documentary film making, mostly interiors, controlled environments with artificial light.

But I don't really know enough about cameras to tell if I'd be better off with this or a 7D with external audio and monitor.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Buy a 60D or T3i and save your money for lenses if you go the DSLR route..paying the extra money for the 7D is overkill IMO (for video)

I ditched a Canon 7D and got an XA10 for shooting for several reasons. The 7D (and all DSLR) will only run for a few minutes before either overheating (and often failing to record the file) or hitting it's max record time (thanks to EU tax regs). Sound on the 7D is just horrible. Go and throw yourself to the mercy of oncoming traffic horrible. The XA10 has a waveform monitor and zebras for correct exposure, great facial tracking AF, fully manual decent quality audio and is a nice form factor. The 7D has nicer Bokeh. I can easily get shallow DOF from the XA10 as it has a fast lens and a 10x optical zoom.
