WWII flick screengrabs

I'm about 75% done with a WWII short. Figured I'd throw some screengrabs up and maybe get a little feedback. I was very happy with the results. Couple of lighting issues was the only problem but they could have been avoided.

It's basically a humanity vs. war short based on 2 soldiers (german and american) who are the last survivors of their platoons in WWII and wind up running into each other.

Thanks for looking :)

Wow, yeah I agree with Hodges on #4, good colors and HOW did you pull that off? Buried the actor? keyed out? Give us some insight. I liked all of the grabs except the "dream" grab, I didnt like how it was a little too bright, didnt fit with the style of the others, great job though.

Lookin good. #4 is killer! Great effect... how did u pull that off?

Hodges

Boy that was fun, hehe. We actually chopped a guy in half :)
JK, we buried his legs and filled his shirt with sausage and stage blood. We dismembered a manaquin for the leg and threw a little sausage stew on that as well.

There is a 3 minute dream sequence and I wanted it to look different from the rest of the film. Filmed it a bit brighter and cooler by changing color temp and experimenting with the white balance, also used a wide-angle on just the dream sequence parts.

Thanks for your input :)

What kind of weapon is the german soldier on #5 holding? It's not a k98 mauser? Looks more like an M1 Garand?

Yea, the weapon in that shot is an M1 Garand.

Good job.

Good composition, great productioin design. From what I saw, I like the lighting.

Are the still color corrected? I get the sense they might want to be tweeked a bit. Not sure how, but they feel a little raw. Just a personal preference. Otherwise looks great.

As long as you have good acting, good sound and story, should be a hit.

Thanks. I crunched the interior shots a bit in FCP but thats about it. All the exterior shots were only slightly adjusted to match if they were a bit off, but most were right on. Still experimenting in FCP but pretty close to were I will be in final.

these are really cool, svf1972. I'm writing a feature that I plan to start shooting in May that contains some war elements. Mine might not take place in a past war, but it is militant, nonetheless. Nice to see other people's military work. Can't wait for a trailer or some footage.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I will post the trailer when I pull it together (should be about a month or so).

Just an FYI, there's an electrical outlet showing in #7 -- makes it look modern.

BUSTED! I put that one up for just that reason...Wanted to see if anyone would notice. I had a sand bag covering it before we shot and someone moved it :( Whenever that shot comes up while we're editing I yell "OUTLET!" and we all laugh about it. It's a quick 10 second cut and the viewer SHOULD be focusing on the characters. Think I can get away with it? Any suggestions? I definitely want to use this shot.

Here's the scene:

The outlets not that bad, I probably would have noticed it if no one said anything, but I wouldn't have thought anything of it. If you were to maybe make a screengrab and then stamp tool out the outlet in photoshop. Then make a mask that masks out the outlet in after effects and place your screengrab below it, that should work. I'm sure theres more ways to do it, but I had a boom get in the corner of one of my shots(a VERY tiny bit of it). I did that and it came out looking good.

Anyways, the grabs look awesome man #4 had me thinking.

yeah, i noticed the outlet as well, but figured that you had already spotted this way ahead of me (speaking to svf1972). Not that big of a deal.
