Wrong value of prize?

Check out this at Mac World '07...
It lists the grand prize of the raffle as a 7 day free rental of the Red, valued at $14,000. Is their valuation of a week rental like The Price is Right's value of a stripped down Chevy????
Hoping that a week rental will be a tad more affordable!

im getting redirected.. and i hope a week rental is valued that high.. id be stoked.. i could make my camera pay for itself in no time

yes its obviously inflated due to demand, that value wont hold that rate for much longer after a wide spread release.

what do u guys think the price for rentals will be after a wide release of the camera? just trying to figure out how to price myself and camera

Silverado valued this prize at 14K or 2K a day for 7 days, not us. Just to be clear. It's not just the camera. It's a complete base package. I need to get exact particulars from Torrey but I do know it includes sticks, battery, recording medium, matt box, lens, filters, etc.

This prize can be won ONLY by silent auction at the event. Caveats include it must be checked in and out of Silverado (Sacramento area) you must have insurance, and ample time must be given them to assure camera's availability. Minimum bid will be $100.00.

There is not enough room on the web site to post all of this (maybe Torrey can post it on Silverado) but everything will be posted at the event including all caveats and rules. And I'll post back here as I know more.

Regardless of the "value" of this prize and speculation of perceived demand, someone may go home with a VERY cheap rental of a Red Cam. For a week anyway.

Yep, and we plan on holding that price unless Red's prices go up. FYI, as soon as we get ship dates on our units (I don't have a clue what they will be yet) we'll start allowing tentative reservations.

$2k per week for a full kit seems cheap. An SR3 over here in the UK, fully kitted out from Arri Media, rents for £700 p/d or x4 for a week. I don't see why Red would be much (if any) cheaper, specially if you factor in lenses and the like.

i still say we start a red one union.. all of us camera owners..and operators can have a set rate ;-) and if you undercut!!!! then we will CUT you.
after all.. we gotta pay this thing off.. i dont want a small biz loan over my head for a long time...
on a side note...to the red team... can we (redcore) get a special redone instruction seminar type dealio? learn the functions and everything about the camera, so that we have a headstart and have minimal downtime...
