Wow....

i thought it was well done especially given what the standard of todays video is!! the begining is SUPER tight. this is even better than the backstreet boys video. matt is doing this at this age image what ehll be doing when hes older! i FINALLY got in touch with him afer a hardcore search. hes still really busy. he said hes shooting his next video in about a week for a band called "motion city soundtrack" and its very low budget so it will let him to do things his own way so he can worry less about the label i guess. he doesnt love the anna nalick video even though hes proud of the "look" he created. i told him how great it was and he said "it's alright for a beauty video" and he still says hes doing a no budget hvx video after christmas which makes me excited! i have his email if anyone really wants it... but hes slow and only replies some of the time to me. i shouldnt post it publicly. matt is my freakin idol! hes made it for himself. even after everything hes still soooo critical of his work and doesnt want to show it. what was fincher doing at 19!!

Enough with the age thing please. Once you're getting a salary/paycheck and working with prrofessionals, then you should be judged on the merits of the work, and the merits alone.

I can see how he could be inspirational for you, but I agree with Matt - it was a standard beauty vid, with some of the cliche' elements. It was well done for what it was. Maybe he will be more original when he makes a name for himself. I give him props for achieving what he has, but the age thing is irrelevant to an objective critique of his work IMHO.

I wish him luck, and I hope to see more of his own voice, and originality in the future.

Cheers.

I heard he's re-shooting 'Free your mind' on hvx don't know if it's true or not but I say yes b/c the artist didn't like the original video.

I agree with d & g I believe if Matt used his own Ideas for both videos he would did something wild.

D and G is on the right track with what he is saying. Age doesn't necessarily make a difference with the products anyone puts out.

Now I'm not saying I'm as good as Matt by any means, but I bet I could make a video very close to what he's made if given the right equipment. He's gotten to know the right people to get where he is right now, and yes, a lot of that has to do with his talent, but I think some of us on this forum have just as much talent as he does, but we may not know the right people or how to approach getting our stuff released correctly.

Give me a decent band and an editing system and I'll make a badass video too ;)

matt mcdermitt made his first video "Uninvited" with one camera (a dvx of course), no lights (some bounce boards) and 300 dollars. it was absolutely breathtaking and immediately caused hundreds of posts to surge up all over the internet including articles about him. he was 17 and did something unbelievable with no money and no crew. i dont know if you remember the video but you can search his name here and find one of the original 30 something page posts. matt is retardedly talented, it especially shows in those first few videos he did on the dvx before he became who he is now. yor basicly saying you can do what hes done just as well and that is very mind blowing to me. i challenge you to show me something better then one of his original dvx videos. you own the camera... im sure you can scrounge up 300 bucks like he did. put your money where your mouth is and show instead of talk. i know there is other talent on this boards and some great stuff but nothing else really matches mcdermitt's level of perfection when it comes to the videos he has full control over. age doesnt matter no but it cant be totaly ignored when your that young and that good.

"give me a decent band and ill make a badass video too"

mcdermitt didnt have a decent band so he made a mock music video and then another with a real horrible singer. the video was so well done you forgot how bad the song was. he didnt have any decent bands to work with. you are all talk my friend but i could be worng. lets see what you can do. i think people are almost jealous that matt is receiving so much good attention from filmmakers and common people everywhere and forget that he is coming from the exact same place we are. the times ive been able to contact him he is really critical of his own work and is down to earth. he also has no idea what an icon he has become for young filmmakers and students. its the people who actually DO something and work hard that make it. im not saying there isnt some luck or connection to do it because thats half of it but the internet is a big thing and there are plenty of poeple to contact.

Take a deep breath.

greatescape, you misquoted me. and you know what, i'm not really going to defend myself in this arguement. i'm confident in the work i do and I know i can pop as good a product out as Matt could. i'm not trying to be big headed at all, i promise you that it's all in good time for me. i'm proud that Matt got where he is. someday I hope to be in his same position. i'm actually glad you posted with those comments, it's motivated me to make an excellent video. i'll come back to you later when it's done.

seriously, i thank you.

Sorry man, but the work that's posted here isn't a true representation of all that's possible from the people here. There are many seasoned working professionals on here that are doing top of the industry work on a daily basis. Just because they don't rush to post everything they do so you can see it doesn't mean they can't trump anyone else.

Regardless of age, considering Matt's overall experience, his work is damn good. People get better with more experience, and Im interested how he turns out when he's older.

He's personally an inspiration for me (I'm allowed to look up to him because he's older than me) :cheesy:

Anyways, I thought the video wasn't anything special. Too typical... and feels and looks a lot like the backstreet boy's video. And that playing footage of her feeling up the doorway was painful to watch for me.

But looks slick..

Wow....

WOW was my expression after noticing someone closed the thread about Matt...I thought we filmmakers were all about supporting each other. I am glad for the kid. he's got talent and it shows in his work...

Don't know anything about it, but my crystal ball shows this thread being closed in the near future... :)
