..well theres only two real elements there. a raging inferno, and two ladies. no matter how i framed it up, the argument could be made that it would be hard to get it wrong. ....that, and i did run through about 10 different comps as i stood there :)

..hey wait, did you mean comp as in "frame element composition", or as in a composite. cause its not a composite.. aside from the web encoding, its a raw uncorrected and untouched shot.

Neil-
Yeah, I meant comp as in After Effects--as in composite. There's just something surreal about it...unnatural. So, can you address what about this clip makes me feel that there's some kind of trickery going on? Setup? Acting?

My guess is that it actually wasn't a "bad day"--that was a controlled burn. But you don't have to give up your secrets, it's a cool shot (no reverse pun intended) either way. Very cool looking. It looks like you're enjoying your HVX. Keep the clips coming!

yeah, ..unfortunately there's no movie magic behind this one. it was a completely unplanned and out of control fire, the girls were standing there just watcing it burn because standing anywhere on the other side meant swallowing more smoke than the ozone layer. the Fire Dept and other usuals at a fire scene were there convieniently a little bit off screen, but since it was far enough away from other structures they just let it go. ..and naturally, i just let the cam roll.

My instincts fail me. Again.

Looks fantastic, Neil! You should sell your stuff to the TV stations.

This makes me want to get a scanner and wait at night for something to burn.. an old house that has not been lived in for years. I would film the whole thing in 60fps.

Neil: Was it exciting and exhilarating. I bet it was.

..i actually called them that night on a whim. no buyers... it should make for some halfway decent stock footage though.

surjones,

not exciting, not exhilerating. just the end of a very strenuous day.

..it was an old big building in a field. unfortunately, it was burning because a little fire got out of hand. heres a full res tiff through the night haze. you can make out some of the timbers, and the foundation structure in the fire. the girls look a bit closer than they were because of the longer lense i was using spatially compressing the scene.
