I was experimenting last night in low light and at 12db, the image was pretty noise free to me.. at least none of that ugly chroma noise.. the little luma noise that existed gave it a real film look.. Very nice!

I was filming a wedding 2 weeks ago when they dropped the lights down to almost nothing for the first dance. I immediately kicked up the gain to 12db and the footage looks good.

DaFireMedic,

Would you mind posting a clip from the first dance? What settings did you use?

I will when I get the chance. I'm at work right now. My intention was to use scene file 1 during the outdoor ceremony to match the HV30, and scene file 4 at the reception, but in my haste I never switched scene files, so it stayed on scene file one at 1/60 shutter speed and iris full open.

Man the hvx200 used to be my dream camera, dream in the sense that I'd dream about it and didn't actually own it, I'm so glad I waited, this is like the perfect camera for me. I do low-light weddings too.

Without having mine here in front of me to compare, yes, it looks pretty similar. There's certainly some noise, but I think its more than acceptable under the conditions and there's less noticeable grain than I expected. The HV30 would have been unusable.

The cam is a dream in terms of the gain. The HVX200 original was useless if you had to add gain. This cam handles it so well and doesn't produce noise in the blacks at anything unacceptable. I have also shot exterior nighttime stuff where I didn't even have to use the gain. It's an amazing camera in what it delivers in low-light. Several people have it rated at 500 asa so that is really why. I'm sure with gain it like 800asa or higher. It also doesn't seem to have the smear of the old HVX and the purple rings arent' nearly as noticable. I don't ever miss the HVX.. and will be buying more 150's and possibly a 300 if needed.
