Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

Hey Ex

I too watched the VX2000. I loved it. Great conceptually and technically (too bad it wasnt the DVX!). I think MATTS is technically more proficient in terms of execution and POST CC, if not just plain ole slicker.

but....

I like the style of the vx2000 video better as well as the music (More my style) Like i said, Id love to see the DVX on that. :P

I also have to agree with the majority in that matts work looks as good as anything ive seen technically. Is it similar to what is being currently aired? yes. Still looks great. Looks like freakin film. Hell, id like to see matt get do the other one! lol

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

I have SO got to chime in on this one.

Exfilms-

We're all in a tizzy because Matt has done some incredible video work with his DVX100, and it is all the more remarkable because he's 17. So what if you've linked a video which (admittedly) is great creative work on a VX2000?

What have YOU done to match Matt's aesthetic? Show me the money.

True that. True that.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

I thought that the VX2000 video, while it looked nice, was boring
...I guess i'm more of a writer than cinematographer, so thats what i think of first...but...

so he's in the cellar of some wife beater...don't tell me..oh it meant more...you only see what you get, i'm tired of reading something more into everything, especially when thats just a copout answer...music videos should be like short films..."crappy story?...no...you're not seeing the whole picture...whatever"...

but I guess "what it looks like" is all that we're talking about here...

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

WOW.

McDermitt has a future.. I'll remember this guy forever.. had a nice 2 hour long chat with him after the video.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

Hmm, i dont' think this thread needs more posts but anyway:

I saw Matt's stuff while it was up and I thought it looked really awesome. So did the stuff on the smiley site shot with the vx2000.

I'm not allowed to have an opinion unless I'm better than him?

I have never made anything that looks as good as Matts video (all of my work is on my site for the world to see). But does that mean I have idolize him as the god of all things DVX? LOTS of people are better at this than I am. I said again and again that it was good work. He's extremely talented. Age has nothing to do with it. It just isn't "mind-blowing" and doesn't make me want to "sell my camera" and become an "accountant". So sorry for expressing my opinion, and sorry nobody understood the point I was trying to make. Those of you that think the Uninvited video is the end all be all of videography, I think your expectations are too low.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

For the record: (God this thread wont quit) Ill never give up to be an accountant! :D

Whenever I see work whether it be the worst **** on a stick of all time or some of the best I have seen yet and no matter if it's from Scorsese or some hack 17 year old:

I get mad inspiration for all the right reasons.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

I second everything ExFilms has said.

I'm taking banjo lessons from a 17 yr old HS kid who also plays guitar, steel guitar, mandolin, bass and drums. That's impressive no matter how old you are, but he's been playing since he was like 9. If I had the same determination I might be able to do that in 8 years too.

Matt's videos look awesome, but he's been doing this stuff for what, 9 years? I just started getting 'serious' about DV not even a year ago. I just can't believe the absolute stroking this kid is getting on the board!

This whole thing further proves my "lopsided DV learning curve” theory. It's far easier for people with a strong post background to create this level of work than it is for folks with strong production backgrounds. Especially when it comes to compositing, color correction and other effects. These things are the norm now, the defining look, and unless you know how to do it effectively, you’re stuff won’t look like Matt’s. The fact that he didn’t really light anything is a perfect example. In other words, with the technology available at this price point, you can more or less ‘point and shoot’ on set, and as long as you’re a post-production whiz, you can make it look as good as Matt’s stuff.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

Hopefully there will be soon... I haven't seen it yet myself and I am trying my best to patiently wait.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

The making of the video was a look at the first day, much of the shooting was almost done for test purposes (except for a handful of shots that worked out perfectly) - we re-shot much of the fountain footage using some ghetto reflectors and simple light blocking - a lot of effort went into getting the rough footage to look as close as possible to the final product. The post work DEFINATELY enhanced the entire production, no doubt - It wasn't as simple as point and shoot though. ;)

I'll have a few rough frames posted when the site is back up.

The making of "Bring Me To Life" should also be available, I personally find it to be more interesting.

Re: WOW Look at this kids work!

Great to hear from you, Can't wait to see your new stuff. Good luck with everything!
