WOW! GF1 Manual Video Settings. Thanks Vitaliy and Crew.

Here is a video that talks about the GF1 manual video controls and how to add them to your GF1. The Ptool demo is at the end of the video but there is a clickable link to skip to that part near the beginning of the video.

Important Announcement from Vitaliy Kiselev

Manual movie modes work now on GF1 same as on GH1 (with latest "Movie modes" patch).
This includes all M, A, S modes.

You need to go to menu and set appropriate mode.
Also if you go to menu in picture shooting mode it'll convert to corresponding movie mode, just turn wheel one click and return it back to go to back to normal picture mode.
This can be even handy

Tested and working. Including shutter control during recording, etc.
So, GF1 can be used as second camera now.

Where to begin? Getting the manual features in video on the GF1 is like getting a whole new camera. It is great to be able to dial in the settings exactly. However, adjusting settings while filming is not recommended. The sound from the clicking wheel is annoying and the changes in picture are distracting.

However, I love setting up each scene perfectly and then using manual focus as I go.

There is one caution here though. Don't save any of the custom settings while in manual video mode. It will save them in that mode with only one way to change it back. That means you can't take pictures at all in that mode.

If you accidentally save it that way then just go to another custom mode, load it, and then save it over the custom mode you overwrote with the video only mode. Whatever you do don't overwrite all four of the modes. I am not sure you can recover from that without resetting the camera completely back to factory settings. Which will also reset you picture numbering.

I will post some samples later on.

This is fantastic news. Panasonic should be ashamed of themselves for purposely limiting the functionality of the GH1 and GF1 so seriously.

Simply changing the firmware to "enhance" the new model GH2 and GF2 is insulting to their customers. I hope the new models will do more than this.

Thanks to this news, I just bought a GF1 on Fleabay.

Paypal donation on the way...

this is insanely cool and has made me one happy man!!! is this in version 3d, or do we have to wait a tiny bit longer for the next ptool release?

just too awesome for words

The current version has it. A guide for using it will be up shortly.

mpg, wanna give us a quick heads up on what we can set, iso, framerate, gain, aperture???
i think i'm gonna pop lol

[edit]
i just tested it, and set the shutter to the following speeds and it worked
1/30
1/60
1/250
1/640

i could not set the shutter below 1/30, but this is not important to me

Turn your dial to Manual Focus, then you can go below 1/30th shutter speed in video.

Of course, with the GF13/GH13 hack, slow shutter speeds seem to cause problems below 1/50th. Any progress on that problem?

Just tried it...in S mode...shutter does not go up stuck at 60 and camera reverted back to auto iso etc
will reinstall firmware again

*edit* problem solved reformatted card and worked...I think if you have old footage previous to ne patch causes a glitch.
*edit 2* nope once recording new footage camera bugs out and reverts back to auto settings.
*Edit 3* haha okay...so if you switch your camera off and back on it goes back to auto...press menu...press again back to shoot...changes to manual.

Video quality has improved thanks to manual!

hI thanks for the advice still not luck to get the manual to work, reformatted, re-installed the hack and still cannot get the iso to go manual in "s" mode.

Heeeelp a Noob..

you have to remember that this is still in tester stage, so bug comments should probably only be well documented reports :)
maybe vitaliy can tell us if he wants well documented reports at this stage, or not to comment about bugs? i am sure he knows about all of them lol

i tried m mode & you can set the following:
iso - sets the video gain - iso 100 is no gain, 0, which is a god send!
aperture - in real fstop numbers
shutter speed - 60 is the defacto cinematographer's 180 degree shutter angle for 30fps.

in s mode on my panny 45-200mm the aperture makes a terrible noise, but it goes silent once the record button is hit - because it is changing smoothly

at the moment, the mode dissapears occasionally, but just hit the menu button and then close the menu and the manual mode is back

all i need now is true 60fps cranking for slow mo :2vrolijk_08:

1080p AVCHD next.. :-))

Vitaly, has already stated that the sensor on the GF1 is not capable of true 1080p. I just want adjustable frame rates. I would love to be able to shoot 100 mb/sec 720p MJPEG @ 24 FPS with full manual controls and 4:2:2 color.

100 mb/sec 720p MJPEG with 4:2:2 color was achieved. There are some samples around. As for 24fps just switch the camera to PAL and you´ll get 25fps.

GF2 unleashed! I cannot wait for mine to arrive!

I can get FullHD AVCHD mode to work on GF1 using menus.
But it have no use in current state as all it records is bad partly flashing picture :-)
