Wow! Filmic Pro on the iPhone 11 is Amazing!!!

I have not seen every video on the iPhone 11 - and I ain't waiting until a zillion more come out - but F-stoppers made a mention that, quality wise, there's very little difference between iPhone11 Pro/Max and a DSLR, with the iPhone having an advantage on the ease of use and, obviously, accessibility. F-Stoppers were comparing it with the XT-2, which they normally stabilize on a gimbal.

PS. Anyone shorting Canon, Nikon, Fuji Film stock?

I've already bought my iPhone 11 Pro cases, and once Filmic Pro or an alternative apps gets sorted out then I am picking up the phone. Just to have something that can record a usable image that is always with me is reason enough to buy one.

I don't really care about the cost of the app because it will be the cheapest piece of video software that I own. I'm fine if they want $100 for it, just make it work properly.

The part where he moans over the app costing like a Starbucks Grande Latte was kind of embarrassing.

I do think it's a mistake on Filmic Pro's part to not just say what it costs. It's not like you can't find out, but just be really clear or you'll upset your customers.

Make it free to download, or just make it $30-60 or whatever straight up.

And more anecdotally, YouTube videos like this where he admits "they even clearly said it on the keynote that there were talking about upcoming features"—but then I forgot about that (and I guess all y'all too right? Am I right???), still bought it and now I'm miserable.... well, they push all the wrong buttons on me.

Uggg... I have many things to say but will skip them to remain polite. How can someone that's such a photo enthusiast not know about Filmic Pro. No I didn't make it much past that point in the video because I do not trust this guy's opinion.

Just buy the app and the plugin, it is less than a meal for two at any decent chain restaurant.

And for the record, unless they have changed things significantly, the Filmic website clears states that the other options are an additional purchase. I have it on my Android, and while the camera SUCKS, the application travels with me to every phone I've had in the past years since I bought it, and tablets too. If I ever get a phone with a decent camera, I will buy the "horribly expensive" and "deceptive marketing" option pack.

I strongly encourage anyone that has a good phone camera to buy this application, no I don't own stock in their company or get kickbacks. For the price it is one of the best tools you can put on a phone for imaging. Eat some Ramen for lunch for a couple of days and it will be paid for!

I've used Filmic Pro for the past few years primarily for those times we need to shoot something on a phone (simulating Facetime or Snapchat etc) that cuts with conventional camera footage, since it can regulate true 24p footage without the little variations in speed of the classic phone app which helps with audio syncing. My biggest complaint against it is the GUI splashed all across the screen that makes composition difficult. I don't think the app is overpriced for what it does, but I do think that if Apple was going to release a phone at that price point and call it "Pro", they should have incorporated a number of the features of Filmic Pro within the architecture of the phone as purchased.

Maybe Apple should have just purchased Filmic Pro and all add-ons and included into the base price of the phone???

Anyway, they are usually really quick on the updates for this app, I don't expect it will be very long before it works as intended on this new phone.

Of course, in Canada, you should also have access to Huawei's latest. No apps, but, hey ...

Side note, one of the Toronto based YouTubers compared the stills quality of the Fuji GFX100 - medium format with 100 megapixels - with 11 Pro and, lo and behold, GFX100 won!

I should hope so...

That being said, I’ve been very pleased with my 11Pro, all around. Screen, stills, video, battery, speed... I came from a X, so not exactly night and day difference, but I’m happy with my purchase. And so is my girlfriend, who decided to buy one and upgrade from her 7, after I came walking in the door with mine last week.

A APS-C DSLR/Mirirrorless would have been far more apropos because there difference would have been minute in both stills and video.

On the whole though, he did think that 11 was an improvement over X and, overall, a top notch product. Other reviews are similarly positive.

As the owner of an 8 Plus and user of the current version of Filmic Pro...

1. Does the new iPhone 11Pro allow one to truly lock exposure or does it still do the stupid exposure compensation when something crosses the frame?
2. Does the iPhone 11Pro have any kind of effective or even semi-effective IS built in?
3. Does the "new" Filmic Pro allow greater than 100Mbps data rate shooting? I believe the stock Photo app allows only 60Mbps recording but going to
the top quality section with the Filmic Pro app nets you 100Mbps?

The recent release of Filmic Pro increased the maximum bit rate of FiLMiC Extreme from 100Mbps to 130Mbps. You can lock exposure and focus in the app. The iPhone Pro 11 has improved cinematic video stabilization. Native iPhone 11 Pro video app records 4k, 60fps "high efficiency" at 400MB per minute. The data rate reads out at about 90 mb/s.
