would you still buy an HVX200?

as sony has upgraded their ex1 is panasonic going to upgrade 170 soon?is the 170 due for an upgrade?

I was one of those SD Guys too... I can't live without DV... OMG!!! and guess what, I sold my DVX100b and my HVX200 for the HPX170. When and if I need SD on Tape to hand to a client. I hook up one of my mini-dv cameras that I bought at a Pawn Shop for nearly 50 bucks. I just run a firewire out of the HPX straight to the deck. I have the ability to record to P2 and to SD simultaneously for redundancy. Shoots finished, and I hand over a tape.
No computers, and I get to walk away with P2 Backups for my Reel.

Note: How many times have you been in a situation where your clients asks for Sony Tape? Its happened to me and several times. I only used to use Panasonic Tapes in my DVX and HVX. Buy a beater mini-dv camera in a Pawn Shop from Sony, JVC, Panasonic... They'll all be there... I promise... I never look back on buying my HPX170 over the HVX200a...

I was just going to ask if that was possible ;)

Go to Other Function Settings; Select either EXT for External, Both for External and P2 or Chain for HVX/HPX to record to P2 and once their almost full it will automatically trigger the external recording deck to start recording.

P2/DV simultaneous recording is cool, but do you lose 24p 16x9 recording onto the dv tape? On the HVX200/200A you can shoot HD onto the P2 card and later downconvert 24p 16x9 to dv tape all in the same camera.
I've kept my HVX200 for clients who still want to originate on DV tape , but I like your workaround with the 170. Never thought of that.
