Would this work with GH2 for 2:35.1?

Yup! Works very well! I did this with my 7d and my gh1 simply because I don't have the money for an anamorphic adapter. I bought a screen protector for it tho and drew lines on it instead of cheap tape.

I could only bare about the first 15 seconds of the video, but I also just used screen protectors on my GH1 cams, then maked them with black nail polish. I used post-it notes to tape off the straight lines. :D

I think I basically took a 16:9 photo, brought it into PS where I marked 2:35 bars on it, then saved it as the filename the camera created (or the camera won't see the picture). Open the photo in the camera...busted out the nail polish...

Then in Sony Vegas, I use a Photoshop PSD with 2.35:1 bars on it to mask off the 16:9. Works great when your final output is a 16:9 TV (or internet video). I like the way it looks when shooting with the 7-14mm lens.

i made a sleeve out of thin projector film and blacked and cut out the ratio cause its too shiny with the plastic over it. that way i can flip it around for full coverage or take it off for less glare.

I use the custom guidelines function to create 2.35:1 guidelines. The bottom of the image is framed out, or I suppose you could frame out the top and have the benefit of seeing your boom mic before it comes into your active frame. Later in post, the image is shifted down to center and cropped or letterboxed to 2.35:1 aspect ratio. You can adjust the guidelines to any aspect ratio you want (provided it's wider than 16:9. You can do a squarer box, but it'll be off center - too bad it only has a 2-sided guideline instead of 3 or 4). Best part is no sticky tape masks or the like to hassle with.

This isn't working for me... when I try to open the .jpg on the gh2 it says "This picture cannot be played". Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

What's not working? Did you try the method I suggested? Did you "save as" your image to an image you took with your GH2...directly onto the SD card? That should work. I can email you the picture I used to mark 2.35:1 onto my GH1 LCD...but you still have to "save as" and replace an existing photo on your camera. At least I think that's how I did it on both of my GH1's. :D

thats a neat idea!
how do you know how much to move the horizontal line to where it needs to be for 1:2.35, did you use a reference image or so?
this is much better than using sticky lens covers, and can be turned off instantly!

I simply played a 2.35:1 movie on my monitor, carefully aimed the GH1 at it to compose for the entire frame of the movie and nothing more, then adjusted the bottom guideline according to what I saw on the lcd. The vertical guideline stays unshifted to the side. To make it easier for you, it's 55 clicks from the bottom (or top if you prefer) of the lcd frame. Make sure your NLE has the capability of moving the image within the canvas because you'll need to shift the image when you crop/letterbox the edited video. I know for sure that this is a straightforward operation in FCP.
