Would selling my MBP be stupid???

Hey guys,
I have an intel based 2.2 Core 2 Duo Macbook Pro 15inch. It is one of the previous generations that is silver (not the new unibody macs). I was thinking about selling it to use the money for a 7d because I have a regular macbook too that I can use. The regular macbook is the first generation of the intel based. It is a 1.83 Core Duo and it is ragged, but works. Will the regular macbook be able to handle the 7d workflow? Heck, will the MBP be able to handle the 7d workflow.
I have FCP studio on my MBP. I don't have any of the studio programs on my regular macbook other than final cut (no compressor, dvd studio, etc).
thanks for the help guys

I edit currently on a 1.8 intel macbook with 2 gigs of ram. It's possible to edit 1080 on it in pro ress.

But one has to ask themselves, do you really need a camera now? You know a better one will be out in less than a year. Why not just save money, and rent when you absolutely need to shoot.

oh please don't tempt me with the "don't buy now" stuff. i was going to get an xha1, then found out about the hvx and the p2 workflow, then found out about the 7d... if i put it off again my wife is going to kill me. i have to shoot a short film this semester for film school and i really want to use the 7d for it. i very well might shoot it and sell it knowing me but nevertheless, i got to get a camera so i can start practicing

Well then yeah, if your in film school I would say sell your MBP. Do you main editing on your MB, and do your heavy graphics work on the computers at your school.

The first thing I would do would be to check how much you can get for the MacBook Pro, given that it is three generations old at this point. If the price is acceptable to you and you are intent on selling one of the computers, I would sell the Macbook Pro, as I don't think you will get close to the same amount for the MacBook, which is pretty long in the tooth at this point and, as you say, "ragged."
