worthy upgrade from D90?

I bought a D90 about a year ago specifically for video purposes, however I've been greatly disappointed (although I feel its an incredible still camera and thats how I primarily use it.) The 7D has my mouth watering right now however I still feel a little jaded from my D90 video letdown and seek advice on weather I should plunge for this camera.

I'd really appriciate the answers to any of these questions specifically:

-How does the AVCHD compression on the camera stand up (I felt the M-JEPG compression on the D90 to be unacceptable) and how easy is it to get the footage into Final Cut Pro 7?
-How much footage can an 8GB CF card hold?
-What's the sound situation like. I have a handy recorder (Zoom H4n) that I was hoping to use as a pass though device with my XLR mic so I don't have to sync in post, would this be possible and has anyone tried it?
-Does the 7D suffer from the CMOS jello-cam that plagued the D90?
-Can any of you reccomend a good "starter kit" of lenses that could help me get the most out of the camera as a video device?

Yes, Buy the 7D! You can always sell it later & buy the next best thing.

The 7D's H.264 codec is better than HDV | 5.5 MB/sec | 48 Mbps | 2x as efficient as MPEG-2 when implemented fully.
You'll have to convert the footage to Cineform, or ProRes etc. For faster editing.
I think an 8GB card will hold a little under 25mins of footage.
Yeah, use the zoom H4n. Wait 'till the Magic Lantern Firmware is ready, to use cam as sound recorder.
It kills the D90 - Jello isn't much of a problem.
Plus you have more frame rates - 24/25/30fps in 1080p mode & 50/60fps in 720p for slo mo stuff.
I say buy the kit - If you're not happy with the lens, just sell it (you'll make a profit) & buy something else.

I had a D90 and sold it in favour of a 7D. The only "bad" thing is I have to buy new Canon lenses. The 7D is a very nice SLR and works better in movie mode than D90.

lovely! thanks for the advice. (PS thnx also to whoever put this post in the right spot, realized I mess up right away but didn't know how to move it!!)

One more thing, I remember hearing about some kind of log and transfer ultity to download for Canon EOS H.264 files, does this exists or is it just some sort of figment of my imagineation, I can't seem to find it online.

Well, not necessarily -- if you're comfortable using your existing lenses in manual-only mode, you can use Nikon lenses on the Canon cameras with an inexpensive mount adapter.

Only if they're manual lenses with an aperture ring.

I had the d90 and looked at some clips the other day, compared to the 7D at 1080 it's a big difference. At 720, it's not that huge, but the jello difference definitely IS. The D90 has horrible jello, the 7D is workable. Just the manual controls alone are worth the upgrade.

I experienced the jello effect on d7 tbh, it was only clearly visible on my lcd tv, however happened when the camera is too shaky or panning quickly

I did, and dont regret it. It would have been nice to stick with nikon, but now that the transition is nearly complete, im happy. On the stills side of things, its unreal. If you think the d90 is good!

Now is the right time to sell the d90 (while it is still the most recent one in its class).
