Worst produced video I've ever watched oN CNN

Hehe when I first starting watching I was thinking, this isnt bad - then I woke up and realised it was actually a Korean Air commercial before "the clip".

Just horrible what is accepted as "ok" more and more.

This must be one of those "100$ looks great on your reel! shoot for CNN" Craigslist jobs....

Even a square of black duvetyne, letting the blacks fall out would have been much better. If that was a youtube video I could understand.

At 1:12 it just looks like they cropped the image in the editor, not in a zoom in camera.

...At least the audio is okay?

Is this even news, or just someone's exercise in motion graphics? The lines are getting more and more blurred all the time.

Just horrible what is accepted as "ok" more and more.
+1

Good god. I don't know what is worse... the white bed sheet backdrop, the punch in soft focus shots, or the horrible editing.

For CNN.com that was just awful!

Oh my god. What a complete pile of uneducated crap. Sigh. He has no idea what he's talking about.

And that was on CNN? -disgusting and shamefull.

//I'd be happy to invite him up here and meet some of the people he's talking about. I've lived with a severe 'cutter' for a short time and it had NOTHING to do with what he's talking about. Wow. What an idiot. Man, people like that, that spew off about things they know nothing about about just irk me. Wow.

It was on the CNN website. So probably it was produced by some guy that doctor knows who 'does videos'. Could certainly be worse, and it's fine for some applications, but it's not at the quality CNN should demand.

I met a girl, she was 19 at the time. I was 30. She was a slasher.
Everyone in town knows her. They call her Slasher Pam.
She's an opium addict. Coke, Heroin. Shoots with needles.
Also has schizophrenia to some degree. And some other issues.

A beautiful looking girl in her day. I'm talking playboy material.
She never hustled for sex, just money. Guys would offer her and she would hustle them out of their dough but never ever gave it up for anyone.

I spent about 3 weeks living with her after knowing her for about 5 years or so.
That was an eye opener. Walking with her to the hospital to get some methodone.
Watching her hustle. watching the heroin addicts drop in at night and asking me if it was okay if they shot up?
Watching her moods change from one day to the next. Seeing the little girl in her and seeing the bad side of her.
Cleaning the full stuffed toilet, cleaning the stove, washing the dishes and trying to put some food in the fridge.

Putting out the chair that started smoking at 3:00am, with a bit of my beer, because she passed out while having a smoke.

The hundreds of cigarette burns everywhere.

Watching her shoot up and passing out while I sat there drinking my beer.

Getting to know her.

Oh yeah, the cutting. She gave that up when she was around 30ish or so.
Her arm is so badly hacked up from slashing it, it looks like it was in a fire.
But she finally stopped doing that.

Pam. You can see her here downtown any time. Ask anyone in Belleville.

This doctor dude in the video that was spewing off. I'd personally like to break his nose. To be honest.
We're talking about real people here. Not whatever it was he was talking about.

OFF TOPIC:
He's not describing cutters. He's describing Borderline Personalities. He said they often take it out on themselves by cutting. He did not say these are the characteristics of a cutter.

It's one of those SAT questions. "People with Borderline Personalities are often Cutters." All Cutters have Borderline Personality disorders, does not necessarily follow. Also "I knew a girl for several years and lived with her for three weeks and she was like 'X'", also does not warrant All Cutters are like "X".

Cutting is a symptom. Juts like coughing. And just like coughing there are many "diseases" or disorders that can cause it. There are "dissociative cutters" and "non-dissociative" cutters. Cutters that feel they are never allowed to express rage towards anyone but themselves where self mutilation is a way to express anger, cutters that cannot deal with anxiety and intimacy where cutting is a means of self centering, etc etc etc.

I've known a cutter intimately as well. She never "hustled" in any form. Never did drugs. And is at the top of her field. But I feel no need to get rage filled and say you were spewing off rather than just accept that you had a different experience with a different individual who had the same SYMPTOM from a different cause than the person I know.

ANd again, he's not defining ALL CUTTERS he's defining BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER, a clinical diagnosis, of which one possible SYMPTOM is cutting.

It's as if the the guy did a piece on SMOKERS and said they get short winded climbing stairs and often cough in the morning and after exercising and you're angry because you knew a Cougher that had asthma and she never Coughed in the morning or after running, it was much more persistent and worse when there was lots of pollen. In the hypothetical example, he's not defining all coughers. Just that coughing can be a symptom of smoking.

My 2¢.

ON TOPIC:
Yes video sucked. Particularly put out by the push ins and the framing of the pushins, though much to mock.

The guy is an idiot, not a doctor.
Borderline personalities is a wash of bs imo. An easy out.

It seems to me he's trying to lump a multitude of symptoms into one category.
That's what I have a problem with.

Borderline personalities? Give me a break. It can be a multitude of several things happening at once. Same with Pam. Same with anyone. To try and lump it all together into one condition is ludicrous.

As for your statement about your cutter friend not hustling or doing drugs, I understand.
That's what I mean. It's often a condition of several problems happening at once.

In Pam's case, she has several things going on at once, which makes it really hard to deal with. And yet, under all of that, is PAM.

The way the psychological system works is that somebody must be classified before being able to receive treatment. The guy speaking in the video is not making up the classification of 'borderline personality disorder," just merely explaining it.

There are many critiques to be made about the system of classifying so-called psychological "illnesses," but the speaker in the video is not the entity responsible for the system. He might actually hate classifying patients, but that's the reality he has to operate in.

Well, 'border line personality disorder' is a pretty broad term would you agree?

Maybe the same as 'a viral condition' ?

Or maybe a 'muscular' condition?

Or maybe a 'mental' condition?

Because it's definately not specific.

Otherwise I'd be happy to hear the medical definition of 'border line personality disorder'.

//Never mind...

What a load of generalized ****.

Well, here you go. You decide if your are classically poo pooed up or not.
If you do not fall into this area, then may I suggest you are unclassically poo pooed up.

A pervasive pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and affects, as well as marked impulsivity, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:
  1. Frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Note: Do not include suicidal or self-injuring behavior covered in Criterion 5
  2. A pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships characterized by alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation.
  3. Identity disturbance: markedly and persistently unstable self-image or sense of self.
  4. Impulsivity in at least two areas that are potentially self-damaging (e.g., promiscuous sex, eating disorders, binge eating, substance abuse, reckless driving). Note: Do not include suicidal or self-injuring behavior covered in Criterion 5
  5. Recurrent suicidal behavior, gestures, threats or self-injuring behavior such as cutting, interfering with the healing of scars (excoriation) or picking at oneself.
  6. Affective instability due to a marked reactivity of mood (e.g., intense episodic dysphoria, irritability or anxiety usually lasting a few hours and only rarely more than a few days).
  7. Chronic feelings of emptiness
  8. Inappropriate anger or difficulty controlling anger (e.g., frequent displays of temper, constant anger, recurrent physical fights).
  9. Transient, stress-related paranoid ideation, delusions or severe dissociative symptoms
It is a requirement of DSM-IV that a diagnosis of any specific personality disorder also satisfies a set of general personality disorder criteria.

No doubt it's broad. I generally disagree with most classifications. My great-grandmother has about 20 great-grandchildren, and only two aren't prescribed Adderall; no exaggeration.

I am very opinionated on the matter... see here: http://vimeo.com/12038629

Oh ****. I guess that's me. Oh ****. Now what do I do? Can I get some money for that?

Oh hey Drew. I actually saw all of your videos several weeks ago but I didn't want to mention it in case I looked like a stalker or something. At the time I just checked out all of your vimeo posts after being linked to one of them.

Very cool stuff man. I enjoyed them. Good stuff. Keep it up.
