"Worst Phone Sex Line Ever!" Commercial

Hey guys,
I've been on these forums for several years (All the way back to when I actually used a DVX,) but I can't find my old account. Anyway, I directed this commercial for Humor Hotlines; the company that came out with the rejection hotline 10 years ago. This new hotline isn't as clever, but it's the one I was hired to do a commercial for. Let me know what you think!

If you are interested it was shot on a 5D.

interesting idea but i think it misses more than it hits.

1. the couple seems a little old to be concerned with a parental curfew...?
2. it looks like you progressively colored the guys face green-yellow during the call. THAT WAS CUTE! but it went back to normal before the spew. so for me, the effect was lost
3. the voice on the phone. i dont think it was "gross" enough. i mean some folks might be into burly russian dudes. might have been more effective if it had been his grandmother or something...

admirable effort overall. im just nit-picking.

Hey, thanks for the review. I'd rather get criticism than simple a "great job!" The thing with the phone audio is that we had no control over it. That's the audio you hear if you call the hotline. That's is also my biggest problem with the spot.

The coloring was going to be done by an actual visual effects person but he fell through and I ended up having to do it myself on final cut with the color corrector. Not very good. When I realized it would be imposible to match the following shots, I decided to have the green go away when he realized she was coming back. It made it less effective but it got the point across that he was feeling sick. Another visual effects guy now has the footage and is in the process of doing it right. Thanks for confirming my concerns. =D

Now, the actors, I learned from this project that the camera adds several years to some people's appearances. Even on set I figured they might be too old, but when I looked at the footage, I couldn't agree with you more. The way I rationalized it is that the girl could come from one of those more traditional Indian families where the women live with the parents until they are married. Given she has no accent, it is a little far-fetched, but it certainly helped me sleep at night.

Again, thank you for the all those great points you made. Keep them coming guys! Any critiques on the way it was shot or lit?
