Worst movies eveeeeeeeeer!!!

Not to make Barry or Blaine jealous (I know they will be) but there is a bigger box set on Amazon that includes: Glen or Glenda / Jail Bait / Bride of the Monster / Plan 9 from Outer Space / Night of the Ghouls / The Haunted World of Ed Wood for $26.99 however, it probably does not come with the 'ohh so sweet' pink angora sweater box.

At least the cover's pink, keeps with the theme. And my box set is VHS, so I might need to upgrade to the DVDs... heh.

Say what you will about how bad a filmmaker Ed Wood was, but Plan 9, Glen or Glenda, and Bride of the Monster are never boring. They're far more interesting and entertaining than, say, the Transformers movies, which I would place on my own list of worst movies ever made. And oddly enough, as bad a filmmaker Ed Wood supposedly was, he actually had a unique voice and eye. I can watch an Ed Wood movie and recognize that he made it. I think we've all seen Hollywood movies with big stars that are totally bland and forgettable. So honestly, I would never place Plan 9, Glen or Glenda, or Bride of the Monster on the list of worst movies ever. Night of the Ghouls, however, is pretty boring, and doesn't have the charm or entertainment value of Plan 9, et al. And I still haven't seen Jain Bait, so I can't comment. But there's never a dull moment in Plan 9.
I agree that Plan 9 can't make the list (even though most folks call it "universally acknowledged" that it's the worst ever). But it isn't. It's kind of fun. It may be technically incompetent, but at least it's entertaining.

The same cannot be said for Glen or Glenda, it's just ... horrifyingly bad. :D

But Glen or Glenda is a surrealist masterpiece! It has easily the boldest use of stock footage in a movie ever. If you watch G or G from a logical standpoint, of course it's bad. Your head will spin from the badness. There is no sensible logic to it. It operates on dream logic. If you look at it like a Bunuel film, then it becomes something totally different. Okay, so I'm mostly being tongue-in-cheek here, but Ed Wood's movies kind of are like weird dreams, which is why I love them. Glen or Glenda is easily the weirdest, most off-beat of them all.

Glen or Glenda brings to mind the immortal quote: "if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull****."

However, nothing beats Bela Lugosi looking down on the herd of buffalo and shouting "Pull the string!"

I'm personally fond of the stag footage with pointless cut-aways to reaction shots of Lugosi. And every time there's supposed to be dialogue, but it's really just voice-over with stock footage of the location they're supposed to be at.

You're making me want to drag it out again. And I really, really don't want to do that. But... you're making it sound almost appealing...

Hey, y'all can too -- I just checked, and Glen or Glenda is available for instant play on NetFlix.

So stop what you're doing, and revel in the madness... watch Glen or Glenda now, on NetFlix!

Let's not forget the scene when Glen wants to borrow his sister's dress for a costume party, but his parents argue about it, and all we see is a static shot of the dress, instead of the people talking in the scene. That's totally avant garde. And "sets" that are just black backdrops. And this was fifty years before Dogville!

I've blocked much of it out, all I can really remember is Satan hovering around someone lying on a couch. For about 25 minutes. It's the dance party from hell.

I'll have to say tropic thunder. I felt angry at waisting 2 hours of my life!!!!

That 'movie' is an utter disgrace to cinema. It was NOT funny, or anything. A ridiculous waste of money.

Edit-forgot I had already commented on Tropic Thunder...but...I saw it on Sky Movies at work one night and thought uuuughhh....

Plan 9 from Outer space was actually reviewed in Empire magazine years ago, describing it as 'hilarious and fun to watch because its so bad'.

I want to see it, apparently you see flying saucers with strings attached and stuff like that, sounds great!!!

Hahahaha does anyone remember The Blob? There was the old original and then a 90's remake. Lol, the 'blob', awesome idea for a movie. Not.
The original 'The Blob' from 1958 with Steve McQueen was followed by 'Beware the Blob,' directed by Larry Hagman, in 1972. Larry Hagman's movie is not well regarded, but I actually like the movie. It scared me when I saw it on TV as a kid, but there were many funny moments too.

I would definatly lump avatar into the worst film ever. I really did not like it. I think it was just the thought of it being 90% CGI that knocked me off really.

Another film I did not enjoy was district nine, I thought it was boring and here wasn't a very strong storyline.

I didn't mind inglorious basterds but I think they could have cut the scenes down greatly, the first scene was far too long

I actually liked 'District 9.' I didn't see 'Avatar' but I agree with your criticism about it. Even some people who said they liked 'Avatar' thought the story was weak. If a film is more overindulgence in CGI than an interesting story, I usually pass on it. 'Avatar' is also known as 'Dances with Smurfs' (coined by a 'South Park' spoof episode).

This is one of my all time fav threads! Good to see someone bring it back to life but because of it Neflix has banned me for not returning all the above movies mentioned.

Disclaimer, I never watched Transfomers.

EDIT: never returned it either
