Worst Job/s you've ever had?

my current one. former successful musician(drummer...so no songwriting credits) with bills to pay and baby #2 on the way...i show up for the benefits. may sound sad to some, but it's not bad. it's a steady 35 degrees in my "office", and i do a lot of heavy lifting.

Moving furniture. A few days of that sh*t put me on a "career path" real quick.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot! I also had this crap job where I was a "padlock tester". I would literally have to test boxes & boxes of locks & keys to make sure they worked before being shipped out.

Telemarketing, hands-down. It was my first job, and I lasted two weeks. It made me feel so awful about myself as a person that I had to quit. Just to show how much of and employee-friendly place it was, and what a caring boss I had there, her response was:

"So, your quitting? QUITTING?! Fine. If you want to walk out that door, fine. But I hope you're happy flippin' burgers, 'cause that's where you'll be without us!"

Thanks, Shannon. Glad you think so highly of me. I hope you know that within a month of leaving, I was working for our NBC affiliate.

Gas Station

Gas Station

When I was a kid I worked at a full serve gas station in the dead of winter. I also had to wear the coat that they supplied and it sucked. :Drogar-Thinking(DBG

This was also back when most gas caps didn't have that plastic tether to keep them from getting lost.

I can still hear the odd sound that was made by the gas cap I forgot on the roof of a car, it slid off and bounced along the pavement down the street as they pulled away.

Cablevision Support... you can imagine.

I did the 4 weeks of (paid!) training, and 3 weeks of actual phone calls. Oh dear god was that terrible.

Six years teaching in inner city schools in Philly...like ascending a descending escalator.

Supervisor at a customer service company (phone support).

It was EASILY the worst... THE worst job, mostly because of the people. I feel totally screwed in that job... like a crime was committed against me. I've never been in a place that made me understand the concept of a union more completely then that place did (non-u shop)... because NOBODY was ever approved for earned vacation days... NOBODY ever got their accrued "unused vacation pay" when they left... (including ME even though I gave my two weeks)... and the place ran under an atmosphere that was really really nuts. One day I had a boss come up to me and ask me the same question about a dozen times "what do you want me to do with this?"... about a freakin' missed clock-in report... the correct answer was that the report shouldn't have been filed yet because the person hadn't signed... which I hadn't seen on the report she was holding... and instead of just saying what the situation was, when I answered, "I don't know... I don't understand what you're asking?"... this lady just keeps asking me the same question with increasing intensity... saying "you still haven't told me what you want me to do with this"... finally I say "I've tried to answer your question 10 times now and you just keep saying the SAME THING over and over... is the real point here to make me look stupid?"

Well... she flipped out... as if I said the worst thing you could imagine... turned super-red in anger... that turned into a bad day... and yet... it was the most ridiculous thing I ever experienced at a job... on a personnel level. You don't want to have a completely irrational ***** as a boss.

I dealt with so many morons at that place that I could make a parody of the call center experience... it was unreal... the whole place was full of people that couldn't get jobs elsewhere (which I realized over time)... and the supers and bosses were all fronting success... nobody was actually making sh*t... and it took a while to realize this. The incident above was within 3 weeks of my last day though...

Telephone book distribution warehouse.....8 hour days in a freezing warehouse lifting
50lb. bundles of phonebooks.

Thank God I was young & stupid.....well....young at least.:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

When I was a kid, being a golf caddy....Lugging around a heavy bag in 90 degree heat for 3 hours for cranky geriatrics, for 7 bucks. Did that once and only once.

Summer job, working for college housing dept- moving refrigerators, stoves and furniture up and down 5 flights of steep stairs in closed, over 100 degree un-air conditioned buildings in Florida in the summer... relishing the 5 minute drive once the truck was full, then unloading into another sealed building.

Felt like Sisyphus.

Oh, that and roofing.
In the summer.
In Florida.
Lasted a whole month.

Damn, I'd forgotten that one... thanks for the memories, LOL! :violin:

It was EASILY the worst... THE worst job, mostly because of the people.

I wasn't a supervisor, but I have worked phone support and it is by far and away the worst job every.

Thankfully, I liked the people I worked with...and I was kind of an ass because the questions were always the same so I took to playing Super Mario Bros. on my laptop while fielding calls and still didn't miss a beat.

Worst job I had was selling those poo pooing Kirby vacuume cleaners for two months when I was 20. Damn I must have been desperate taking a job like that. Because I was required to use my own cell phone and car, I actually LOST money doing that shi*.

Worst work place I had though was movie theater Bergakungen in Gothenburg. I've never been so badly treated by my boss or supervisors anywhere. It's not really the SF company as such, because I've worked other movie theaters in that chain that was really decent places to work, but Bergakungen in particular.
I would choose McDonalds or Telemarketing over going back there.

Yes, I did something similar -- market research. Aside from the constant intrusion on people's lives, I walked out after a week because they wanted me to falsify the times I was making the calls.

Ive always had pretty cool gigs....as a bartender and bar manager, but, wow, for me , the ALL TIME worst was a Holly Hunter film a few years back called Woman Wanted. That one took 10 years off my life, and I even took it off my work credits.
What a freakin' horror story. It was originally directed by Keifer Sutherland but after all the BS from Holly, it quickly became an 'Alan Smithee" film. If you looked at her the wrong way...you were fired. If she had a dream the night before and you were somehow in it...she somehow took it as a threat, and you were fired. If you screwed up her chai tea, God forbid...canned on the spot. I was fired and rehired twice on that film.
stupid, arrogant actors ..never again, totally not worth it....same goes with Shirley Maclain.
Complete wack jobs.

Termite exterminator. Probably took a few years off my life-span on that one. Nasty chemicals, crawling around in figerglass insulated attics, finding dead animals in sub-floor crawl spaces, I could go on and on...

McDonalds kitchen. One month, when I was 16. You leave with a film of grease all over your body.

I don't even enter a McDs anymore, except to piss.

Taco Plaza, they got taken over by Taco Bell, during high school. To fry the tacos and nachos you had to be at the fryer the whole day. Hot as hell. Have you ever
tried to cook 20 pounds of ground beef? Or beans?

If someone threaded the rootbeer line wrong then we had to undo all of the lines to the carbonated drinks. Rootbeer was the worse to cleanse out of the system.

Drive-thru - good Lord, longest day on earth.

What I got out of working 4 months in Taco Bell was a trip to Cancun in 1980 before it became popular and went with our Spanish class. So I got something out of it.
