Worst Film I've ever seen in my life. Shot on RED.

You want bad? Possibly worst? Ever?

Two words:
Myra.
Breckenridge.

Outdoes (outbads?) them all- Dolls, et al.

And perhaps it's the inspiration for the OJ scene?

Filming was also laden with controversy, due to director being granted complete control over the project. Sarne quickly went overbudget due to his unorthodox techniques, which included spending up to seven hours at a time by himself, "thinking," leaving the cast to wait around on set for him to return so that filming could commence.Additionally, Sarne spent several days filming tables of food, for a dream sequence which, in addition to being non-essential to the plot, appears in the film for only a few seconds.

Technically competent- focus, lighting, framing, coupla tracking shots... but just bad. Even Raquel Welch can't make it watchable...

unless you'd prefer the clip of Raquel "riding" the cowboy...

I remember hearing that Ishtar was perhaps the worst movie ever made. So of course I had to see it. This was before the days of Rotten Tomatoes and website reviews. I thought, yea, it's just a bunch of pretentious critics, it' can't be that bad. yes, it was that bad.

It is funny that this film and "Caligula"(1979), both novels written by Gore Vidal, and both 'disavowed' by him eventually...

I don't know if he was involved with a Myra Breckinridge remake... as he was with the trailer for "Gore Vidal's Caligula" remake... available at many viewing locations... while safe enough for the Whitney Museum... probably not safe for work... unless you work at the Whitney...

Y'know... this whole thing is puzzling to me. I mean, first of all, if you think this is bad (and, it is, of course), but if you want to see REALLY bad, go to a film festival that has a "locals" program, and you'll see stuff that is profoundly worse than this. Of course, most of those things are abject beginner films, only accepted for screening because it's the festival's policy to show whatever local's film gets submitted, but the point is -- there is worse.

Now, that said, what was the purpose of this? As I sat watching it, I thought that with the name "Actor's Theater" (or whatever), perhaps it was a training exercise for a local theater group to get some on-camera experience... but if that's the case, why are there only two actors in 90% of it, why aren't there others featured? And (forgive me for this) but why aren't they actors? There's not an actual discernable molecule of acting anywhere in this production. I've hired plenty of novice actors from theater groups who would all do -- if not a professional job, at least a credible job, so ... this seems like friends and non-actors, not aspiring or actual actors...

I seriously considered that it could be a prank, because the framing and cutting and staring into the camera and sheer inanity of it would be appropriate for a "how to do everything wrong" video... we had to do one of those as an exercise back when I was taking film courses in school, where you purposely did things wrong (bad framing, bad cutting, crossing the line, cutting on actions that don't cut together, bad sound, etc) just to make something as awful and mistake-filled as you could, which was a helpful exercise actually... but ... 90 minutes of that? I can't see anyone going through that much work for a prank.

So then I thought ... are they serious? Is this intended to be a real film? And I think ... yes, that is what they intended. I know someone mentioned the belly dancer; the belly dancer is the only legitimate performer in here, so I googled a bit and found this page:
http://www.bhuz.com/business-belly-dance/48499-ooohh-belly-dancer-syfy-movie-how-much.html

It's a discussion where the belly dancer asks a belly dancing community if they think she should accept the filmmaker's offer. In that thread, there are some serious-sounding communications of what the director's intent was...
I'm so glad that you're interested in doing the picture. Your comments show that you take your dancing seriously. Is there any possibility of shooting between July 1 and July 6? If not, that's ok, I'm sure we can find a mutually-acceptable date and time.
The amount of $200 is quite reasonable, and you will receive 1% of all profits. Let me put your mind at ease concerning the nature of this picture. I don't make exploitation pictures. This picture contains nothing that is obscene or lewd. There is no nudity or sexual content. There is not even any bad language or vulgarity. The picture could come close to getting a "G" rating, but your dance scene (and some action scenes) would probably bump the picture into "PG".
I am in the middle of a rewrite even though we have been shooting for some time. Fortunately, on this picture we have been shooting the scenes in order (something I almost never do). The first quarter of the picture remains unchanged. My rewrite involves bringing in elements from another script I once wrote. This is where the cafe/bar scene comes in. On Saturday I will scan scenes 1 through 7 into the computer and email them to you. I'd do it tomorrow but I'll be gone all day. To give you the ultra-condensed synopsis: present day protagonist finds time machine. He travels into the future and helps a woman (who is a slave) escape. They travel farther into the future where they help rebel forces battle a repressive governmental entity (shades of Star Wars!). Scenes 1 through 7 only take you up to your scene (in scene 7) but you will at least get some appreciation as to the type of picture this is.
I will write an addendum to our contract that requires me to show you the picture as it moves through production and requires me to get your approval in order for me to use your image in the picture. I don't think that will be a problem-I am sure that you will be glad that you decided to be a part of this production. I have high hopes for this picture.

As a follow-up, the dancer posted:
I just wanted to update everybody. I did the shoot today and it went very well. My dance partner went with me and watched and was a witness when I signed all the papers. The studio (with the green screen) was set up in his house with all the lighting and shot the sequence several times. I watched what he taped afterward and it looks very professional and very cool. My friend said she was reminded of the older, vintage shots of belly dancers in a cafe.
All in all it turned out well and the producer and his wife seemed like very nice, quiet people who have high hopes for this film.

The website www.atprodco.com doesn't seem to be active anymore.

So this is officially the longest thread in the forum...yet I'm struggling to get past page 1 in my "Film School" thread. :violin:
Oh well. Back to our film in question. Here's the classic "Juice Scene" everybody seems to love. Enjoy.

What everyone is missing about orange juice scene is that it is a product placement scene for Simon Cowell Clothing.

If it helps, this isn't anywhere near the longest thread in the forum, not by leaps and bounds.

Well, they are in good company at least. This is just as "unmotivated" for the use of a slight Dutch angle as Tom Hooper's Les Misérables!

The dramatic tension was palpable. Will he put the glass on the counter or in the sink? I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it.

Inspired by misunderstanding Tarkovsky....or forgot to turn the camera off during a break? You be the judge.

LOL...I'd like to see those lunatics who dissected Kubrick's The Shining for hidden meaning to have a go at this movie.

I heard the studios will be doing a reboot of this film with Fincher directing. No actors are attached but rumors are pointing towards Samuel L. Jackson.

It is a scathing indictment of bourgeoisie life and the alienation inherent in our consumption based society.

... or NOT!

No, it would be alienation if the scene were to include a farm worker who picked oranges but could not afford orange juice... yet the bourgeois drinker has the wealth to afford the 'excess value' of the juice.
(As well as a refrigerator to maintain the juice quality over time... well... a least a few days... and of course the short could continue with the maid throwing out the half drunk juice, which had gone sour... thus showing that the excess value of the juice was purely imaginary...).
