Hi, i've got a job with my 7D on a music video that will get air time in europe and the states.... which way is recommended with regards to shooting/finishing in both 25p and 30p?

Is it recommended to shoot/finish in 30p for ntsc... and convert to 25p for pal and web? vice versa? Or shoot 24p and convert to both?

Thanks, Jay

Shoot for the primary audience. i.e. if you are in Australia like myself that would be 25 fps. If then they want to run it in the US, they will need to create a 24 fps version (hardware conversion)

Whatever you do, don't shoot 30p, unless you particularly like and are going for that look. NTSC (more properly ATSC now) is not 30p; it's 60i, BTW. Where are you shooting? If it's in Europe, then you should stick to PAL; less problems with lights, I'm told. But if you're shooting stateside, then use 24p.

it's an outdoor shoot in europe... but will mainly be aired in USA.

My first thought was to stick to what I know (and prefer) and shoot 25p, but just thought I should double check.

Thanks for the replies.

Just be sure it's totally outdoors and you won't end up using indoor lighting, in which case you would want to stick with what you normally do.

I've read before that it's easier to go from 25 to 24, but I don't know this as fact.

Shoot 25fps. Many ways to get to NTSC, but so easy the other way around. There have been a lot of threads on DVX in the past year with detailed info. Do a search.
