Edge enhancement can definitely be turned down. I think we were running at default (because we didn't have a monitor -- everything you're seeing here was shot with just the camera, using just the focus assist feature) so I couldn't determine optimal settings. This is pretty much the default F6 scene file. I think the default edge enhancement is set at zero or -3, and of course it goes all the way to -7.JackFoley said:Cool! The best footage so far. The DOF is impressive.
But still, there is some edge enhancement going on (look at the stones on the ground of the car szene) that gives a little "video-ish" look. But I'm sure one can turn it down via menu settings.
The guitar szene is breath taking. Also the closeups. Nothing more to add.![]()

No adapters at all. That's just the results of a skilled cinematographer using what he had to get the best results. Zoom in, open up the iris, and separate the subject away from the background...Ernest_Acosta said:Jarrod, thanks for the Windows file. It looks good. Did you use a 35mm adapter to get that shallow depth of field? Or is it just the camera (via techniques)? Also any word on an HD Rack for the HVX?
That was DP'd by Jay Nemeth, a very skilled cinematographer in Vegas and L.A. He's the guy who shot the spot that got me an Emmy, so Jay's all right in my book! :thumbsup:NBCshooter said:I saw this footage at the show. Whomever DP'd that (Jarred?) really knows what they're doing. Beautiful lighting and camera work. Excellent job!
The audio detracts from the images -- instead of focusing on what you're seeing, you start trying to pay attention to what's happening in the scenes. We made a conscious decision to nuke the audio.wabbit said:Truely gorgeous. Although my download didn't have any audio...what up with that? jk
Not really, no. The crunch was on -- I flew back from NC Wednesday at 1:00 a.m., and Thursday at 9:00 a.m. we were shooting the interior stuff, then I drove to the gym and Pat shot the kung fu 720p stuff until 11:30 p.m., then I crashed at home until 7:00 a.m. to go drive to the middle of the desert to shoot the exterior stuff until 2:00, and then I had to drive to Los Angeles so Art Aldrich could start editing the footage to get it ready for Panasonic's press event. So no, no time for charts and stuff, and besides, that kind of formal lab testing needs to wait until we have a production-line, serial-numbered, bought-off-the-shelf unit so we know it's representative of the final, finished product.Did you guys get a chance to shoot some res and color charts while you had the HVX?
I haven't watched the 720p reel yet -- isn't the karate guy in there? Isn't there 60p? We shot 12, 22, 36, 48, and 60 of all sorts of stuff. If they didn't post that, I'll try to see if I can work something up later. Not sure whether my beta version of DVFilm Maker will let me extract variable-frame-rate footage or not...Luis Caffesse said:Any idea when we'll get some 60fps slow-mo footage?
THAT is what I'm really waiting for...
The lead actor's girlfriend (I think) owns it. Needless to say, they were very protective of it!Toaster said:Amazing! How did you get a shot of the IROC Z28? I thought they were hunted down and destroyed in the 80's!!!
For the outdoors stuff? That's easy. Point the camera. Shoot.Digigenic said:Jarred and Barry,
Could you guys please share the lighting set ups for each of these shots?
If possible, I'd really like to see one of those bird's eye blueprint grids, like what American Cinematographer Magazine uses as a visual aid for many of their articles detailing the process.
You guys are doing a great job.

PS- Has anyone been to the Samsung store in the Time Warner building in NYC? That 80" Plasma is the most breathtaking thing I've ever seen! Sadly, it only costs around $40,000!!!
