Hey guys ... just got the HVX yesterday. Lots to learn, but looking for a quick fix for slow motion / overcrank.

My situation: Can't upgrade to OS 10.4 or FCP 5 (5.1.1) yet. However, I'd like to import overcranked footage into FCP 4.5.

Will this work:

1) I shoot 720/24PN; 60 fps
2) I do an internal dub to miniDV
3) Import tape to FCP 4.5
4) Reduce speed

Not sure if this will work. Thoughts?

You'll simply end up with SD NTSC-DV footage, not HD footage, but it should work. You want to enable the pulldown when you capture from Mini-DV.

You can also log and capture HD footage with 4.5. Just set your capture preset to non- controllable devise and playback on the camera.

Side note:
A cheaper option to upgrading FCP is to get P2 Log. It will convert your P2 files to quicktime.

Ah...yes, Jeff, I'll give it a try. So far, I haven't seen any good results. Something is amiss!

I have the most recent FCP/DVDSP/Motion/ suite and OSX ... but I don't want to start the whole Apple upgrade game until I'm done with the projects that I currently have on my plate (nothing like spending 5 days upgrading/updating/reinstalling/combing the Apple discussion forums for random answers).

So I thought I could at least start folding in some nice HVX footage.

I'll give it a shot!

For me is more like 5 hours. That's why we pay more to get a Mac, to work less to have it working!!!

Sweet .. you're hired! Come do my upgrade!

Yeah, I'm pumpin a dual G5 .. all good. But when the house of cards (or programs in this case) needs a card replaced at the bottom (the OS) it's inevitable that something .. ususally really minor .. will get me hung up for many painful hours/days. Which is ok (passive agressive) I've been dealing with it since the Mac Performa days :-D

Marching forward,
K

I'll count my blessings, as all but one of the 10 Macs I've owned since my Mac Plus was cutting edge have run flawlessly, upgraded with no hiccups, all the way through my Quad Core. Just sayin'...
