Working on 7' Jib/Crane - DIY from local hardware.

Hey all,

I have been working on the 'Mad Jib' which is of course a JIB/CRANE. I have come up with a great working example. This was my 2nd time around since the materials the arm was made out of the 1st time was not strong enough to be 7' long.

Its built from aluminum, a fence post and steal U brackets forged from a long flat piece. Handle and weight holder are made from a 3/4" steal piping.

I did have to invest in a drill press to get squared off holes, but I came very close the 1st time around with just a drill.

Total cost was under $100. (obviously excluding the electronics)

Comments appreciated!

That looks really nice.
What about more detailed pictures, sample footage and building plans may be?

Sure, I don't have all the specifics nailed down since it was custom to what I was looking for.

I will put some dimensions up later! Good sample footage will be in about a week, got a live show to record.

that looks reeeaaaal nice! i havent seen too many DIY jib/cranes that look strong, stable, or smooth enough to warrant my building one for my HVX. It would be awsome if you can get some plans up, I would love to build one for myself. Good stuff.

Around $100 for the 1st one... didn't use all the parts though...

Some were asking for more info about the parts so I snapped a couple today...

Hey, just tried to view your vimeo video and it's password protected. Did I miss a password in a post or are you hiding it for a reason?
Otherwise awesome build.

Saw the footage...Damn good shots for a $100 jib!

Now I have too many hardware store projects bumpin' around in my mind, lol

Neat jib. Looks very pro.
Did you paint it with rattle cans or another method?

At least the better quality rattle cans, works pretty good. If you get real ruff it might scratch a little paint off. But at any time you get just reapply!

Please PM me the password as well... I'm very interested in seeing this and I'm definitely in the market for some jib setups.
