Workflowing the D90

So, million dollar question.

Let's say I have a doc I shot with a D90 and, a Sony Z1 with sync sound. I have my sound @ 29.97 and my D90 shots @ 24.

Let's say I'd love to keep consistency in sync between my D90 coverage I took during the testimonials and my Z1 recorded sound. Let's say I want to use Matt's rescaler (the lee fix) on my D90 shots.

And finally, let's say I wouldn't want to convert all my footage from HDV (lot's of recorded time) to another better format, at least prior to locking the edit.

Delivery: Any HD Codec @ 29.97, probably 720p.

Any suggestions?

apply my filter first, then use this to convert to 29.97 and edit away. you can also use the same plugin to convert the 60i (or 30p) footage to 24p. render to prores for best quality without too much bulk.

So I have to apply your filter prior to locking the edit? Because if I go from progressive to interlaced I'd change the pixel size and order, right? Maybe I could apply my pulldown offline it @ 29.97, and then apply your filter only for the selected takes and reapply the pulldown and substitutte the media. I'd keep sync, right?

Anyway, I guess I can go from 24 to 29.97 without buying any filters. I can do 24 to 23.98 in compressor, and throwing 23.98 in a 29.97 timeline in FCP would already give me a correct 2:3 pulldown. Question is, I'd probably have to render in an HDV and Prores timeline.

Maybe, knowing how to go to prores from the D90, I should learn to do the same with the Z1, going to Prores 720 29.97p and staying there (I could do that) or even going to Prores 23.98p using some form of half-baked pulldown, if my movement isn't extreme. But I'd probably loose sync between my 24 -> 23.98 vs my 29.97-> 23.98. I mean, what a mess...

:)

even realtime effects take time to render, it's not like they happen instantly. ;-) what i mean is that you don't have to "render" them, just apply and edit normally.

Yeah, but I'd have to render it if I'm going to convert my material afterwards, right?

Don't take me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the TMTS rescaler... :D

Us poor folk still running a dual G5(2.7) get a red line and have to render Rescaler. But it works great.

after you've set rt to unlimited? without that step you probably get a red line even without the filter, right?
