Workflow without Cineform

Hey guys, was wondering what are some of the other options to use in order to edit HDV 24f footage on not such a high end PC. I've been trying the cineform trial version and it's over now :( I don't think I can afford Aspect HD right now although I want it very much. But if there is a way to work with it for now I'd rather wait. Any suggestions? I'm using PP2.0 and I also have Vegas 7.

My PC stats are: 1.8 GHz Dual Core Athlon, 2 gigs ddr2 ram, GeForce go 6560.

It's really jumpy in premier without Cineform.

In my experience, with your PC specs, your only option for smooth playback during editing is going to be Cineform.

:(, so what would be the best way for me to downconvert it to SD and then edit that instead? Damn and it turned out to be such a good shoot. I can't wait to show it to ya guys.

Thanks for the responce Disjecta, another question is what is the major difference between Aspect HD and Connect HD? They perform the same functions yet one is optimzed for Vegas the otehr for Premier. If I get the connect will that let me edit cineform intermediate avi in Premier as well, or just vegas?

For more than a year I´ve been editing HDV with premiere pro 2 on an AMD 64 x2 +3800 with 2gb ram and a geforce 6600le. I never had any trouble. But of course cineform can handle fades of like 5 or 6 video tracks with no problem. I tried aspect hd out and I was amazed by it...but you´re right, 500$ is a bit of a stretch (it´s actually the price of a new pc just like mine here in Spain). IF you don´t have that kind of money right now I would suggest increasing the cpu power a little bit...maybe some ram too.

Damn everything will just lead to spending more money won't it :( I already spent soo much money on everything and here comes more spending. I want to learn Vegas but it's soo different from FCP or PP and it's confusing the heck out of me. I think I might go for the Connect HD plug in 200$ and deal with it :) I was following the thread on downconversion maybe that could also be a temporary solution. Do you know anything about the Edius HQ codec?

Is Raylight a possible solution for my maladies? And or is Aspect HD going to give me something that Connect HD wont?

DVFilm Maker (included with Raylight) can convert 60iHDV to 24P Raylight
and you can edit that in Premiere. It won't play back as fast as CineForm,
at least not for the current version of Raylight. We have a tutorial page
on that here

I C, thanks for the answer. So it's more a convert of a 60i, can't use 24f footage. :( But it still sounds like an option. :)

When you drag 24F m2t files into Maker they are already 24 fps since maker ignores the 3:2 pulldown flags. So there is no rate conversion required. With all options except "user selects compression" turned off, Maker just trancodes to 24P Raylight AVI format.
