Hey everyone. I currently own an HMC 150, and have a Canon 7D on the way. So as it travles to me I need to get the PC prepared for it! My pc is an i7 920 6 gb of ddr 3 ram. So all the pc spec is fine ect.
Editing on premier ro cs3 (will upgrade once CS5 is out)
My main concern is how can i edit with both cameras. I need to convert the HMC's AVCHD footage, as well as Cnon 7D h.264 format into "something". Thats my question is what is the BEST format to use, where it doesnt ridiciously have a insane ammount of storage ect.

I want to be able to quickly editing in my timeline scim through very precisely. Storage isnt a huge concern if i have to sacrafice that i will go out and buy a few HDDs as long as my edits run smooth without crashes. When i was using my HMC150 and used the main concept AVCHD transcoder to --> P2DCProHD towards the end of my short film it would crash for no given reason, not sure if its cuz of that format or what but i wanna get away from that if that is the case.

I'm willing tobuy a GOOD program to get good results for converting these formats. Any help appreciated thanks everyone. I think that was everything... Oh & it's a Feature Film we are doing so, gotta be prepared ;)

Try Edius Neo 2.5 booster and don't convert at all with either camera. Edit them in RT with full frame and not a "preview".

Oh and it NEVER crashes, unlike Premiere.

You can edit this now with no hardware upgrade, or wait for CS5, then upgrade your video card for roughly $350. Your choice.

I transcode both to dvcpro hd works like a charm.
7d files with adobe encoder CS4 and hmc 150 files with the avchd to dvcprohd converter tool .
Timelapse footage from the hmc renders with out crashing.
Also render the edit to quicktime(pro) sorenson 3 before I export to mpeg 2 for dvd or mp4. h264 for vimeo.
No artifacts whatsoever !

When needed I convert 24p to 60i inside of after effects ... best film look (motion) results

copy paste : No artifacts whatsoever ! :)
