Workflow in FCP shooting 720p24pN editing in SD timeline

In general I've been shooting in 720p24pN to establish a shooting standard for the work we do. However my current FCP system is a basic DVCAM capable system with SD monitor. It is no problem to edit within FCP this way, however I can't monitor on my NTSC montitor. I'm looking for a practical way to edit, display and output in SD, and be able to keep all that work when I upgrade my system, capture card and monitor to HD. I tried copying my sequence to a DV NTSC sequence but now I'm rendering everything. Any better workflow ideas?
 
The only practical way to shoot DVCPRO HD and monitor it on your computer is to get a capture card like the Kona LH. Or to buy or rent a AJ-HD1200 DVCPRO HD deck. But both will cost you (the card $1600, the deck $25,000). Or you will have to render. Those really are the only options. You can use Digital Cinema Preview, but that doesn't get you a "true" representation of your footage for Color Correction purposes.

I've been reading a lot of your replies & 1st. want to say thanks for sharing much usefull FCP workflow advice.

I'm byuing a BT-LH1700W for on-set HVX200 monitoring & as an edit monitor. Will either the DeckLink Extreme or Kona LHe provide HD-SDI monitoring from FCP? Specifically 24pN which neither card supports according to their scec sheets.

Any input appreciated.

I use a Decklink HD all the time using 720pn out to a Panasonic HDTV 24" HDTV, works beautifully. You will need a card though, unless you use desktop preview, which really isnt a good option.
