T2i Workflow help please....

Hello all,

I've done my fair share of searching, and I still seem to be stumped.

My current work flow, especially when converting 60p to 24p is:

1. Convert to Mpeg4 in Streamclip
2. Slowdown footage in Cineform
3. Edit in Vegas Pro
4. CC in After Effects

There has to be a waaayyyy easier workflow than this. Also I feel like Im losing alot of quality in my first 2 steps.

Any help or feedback will be greatly appreciated....

Oh, Im not opposed to using other programs like Avid, or Premiere.

Well I use a mac so premier and final cut are my main platforms. In the premiere you can drop 60p footage straight into a 24p timeline and set playback and output to 24p to get great slo-mo realy easy! I've never used vegas before though so I'm not sure an easier way to do that their. You could also drop straight into after effects and conform to 24 and export but that could be kind of slow. I realy like premiere though so definently look into that

Hope that helps

Cole,

Thanks for the reply. My problem is I would like the footage slowed down already when I start editing because Im syncing the clips to music. If once I drop the clips into Premiere and they can be slowed down within the program before editing, that would be great. Out of curiosity, what version of Premiere are you running?

Thanks again.

Workflow issues drove me insane before I got Prem CS5.

Avid DNxHD codec seems to be the preferred method for working/trascoding with Mpeg Streamclip.

Also, I don't know what your cineform step is. Wouldn't you just want to slow it down in Vegas/ your NLE?

I'm confused - are you wanting the same speed of video only at 24p - or are you going for slow motion?

I've found that the "Time Stretch" is an easier option than time remapping. Remapping is geared more for non-consistent slow motion - where you would want to change rates of speed within a clip.

This may be of help:

Denzlite,

Thanks for the info... I would say that my actual problem is not know what, what program is for what. Please correct me if im wrong, Streamclip is meant to transfer the native clips to a format more universal or readable for certain softwares? Cineform im not sure of its use other than the fact that once my clips are done in Streamclip i can zip them thru Cineform and the clips slow down. Ive tried using Cineform on the native files and did not get the slow motion effect desired. I guess I am using Cineform for the wrong reason. What i do know is that i would like my clips converted from 60p to 24p before i start editing so that when i sync edits and transitions to music they're synced properly. I am a brand new T2i owner and this is the first time I ever owned a camera. I know I have alot of learning to do, its just feels right now my workflow is tooo tedious.
What would you say is the benefits to CS5?

Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated guys. Thanks

Vegas and AE both read the clips from the T2i. Don't convert them unless you are creating some offline files for faster editing. For the slowmo- Slow the original t2i clip in Vegas (ctrl drag on the edge of the clip). Then render just the slow mo clip to some sort of uncompressed format. Use this new file as your HD online for the slow mo.

If you want your clips converted from 60p to 24p while retaining the same speed of action, then you can just slow the clip down in vegas, while in a 24p job. It'll look like suck, though, unless you use optical flow software. It would be pretty pointless to shoot that way.

However, if you want the 60p to play at 24p, thus making it slo-mo, then you just need to change the meta data of the clip (interpretation) to 24p. In Premiere Pro or elements, you just go to "interpret footage" and use the frame-rate desired. Vegas must have a way. You don't need a third party software as far as i can see.

Highly recommend Premiere Pro CS5 if possible.
