Workflow (good) News

When we can tell you more, we will, but it's work in progress, and I want you to know that we're thinking along the right lines, but I don't want to say something will work in a certain way, and dissapoint if it doesn't end up doing so.

Two questions:

1) I presume this is what we have now:

According to their website the Recode codec is only for 2K or less.

Good find. Maybe it needs to be updated. Besides that link above-mentioned @my_post, follow this Jim's statement here:

The big announcement was that you can record visually loseless 4k on a small drive. Archiving your 4k digital cinema negative can be done without "refrigerator drives". Pretty incredible in our book.

Jim

So, the info @website it must be corrected to 10 bit log 4K, isn't it?

2) 10 bit log @25fps, will it be 28.08 MB/s (circa 225 Mb/s) ?

If the drive will handle does it mean the REDCODE will provide more data rate than that? Via firmware? Upgrade? Or is it ready to the job pending of the drive specifications or future drive offers?

250 Mb/s (EDIT -- 31.25 MB/s@24fps and 260 Mb/s or 32.5 MB/s@25fps, isn't it?) * as data rate in the next future?

* I'm afraid it is the Digital Cinema Initiatives number for the task.

There are limits in hardware on what REDCODE will supply, and we've not fully profiled that out yet. All further is speculation at this point.

THe DCI number doesn't relate to what we're doing as they're doing RGB (or XYZ) and we're doing RAW.

I just don't understand... Jim Jannard said: "The big announcement was that you can record visually loseless 4k on a small drive. Archiving your 4k digital cinema negative can be done without 'refrigerator drives'." But reading the new brochures the only size REDCODE codec related is 2k??

So just for clarification. You're intending for your double top secret fancy solutions to work with AVID too right, not just Premiere ala Cineform?

I hope a solution to Avid BUT to Premiere too. Cineform has been the best editing tool for indies since these last affordable HD years.
