Workflow for slowmo 60i footage in Premiere or AE?

I shot some 1080 HDV A1 footage at 60i for slowmo. Whats the best way to slow this footage down in either Premiere or After Effects? Can someone explain the process from capturing, timeline, converting, slowing down, etc?

Right now I import it into my Premiere 24f timeline with Cineform and it interprates the footage as 29.97. Is that correct? When I adjust the speed using time remapping to 40% it looks terrible.

Is there a process of converting 60i to 60p to 24f? I don't understand the steps necessary to take 60i HD footage and slow it down in the smoothest way possible with Adobe products.

Thanks
Tom

One method in AE
-Set the timecode base to 24fps, and set the composition frame rate to 24fps. Then interpret footage, and set the clip frame rate to 24, and set fields to sperate upper field first. Put the clip in the timeline and set the Time Stretch to 200%. Then render out, making sure frame blending is off, and the frame rate is 24 fps. I like to use the Quicktime animation codec. Then import into Premiere. I've used this method with nice results.

On a side note, I got a hold of Sony Vegas recently, to do some slo-motion tests. It was 60i in a 29.97 timeline, and it blew my mind how smooth it was. I haven't tried the 60i to 24p conversion yet, but I am re-editing a wedding just because the results are so superior to Premiere. Not to mention the down conversion to DVD was much sharper. I'm using an A1 as well.

What is the desired AE composition settings for HDV A1 footage? I'm having trouble setting up a composition that matches my A1 1080i footage.

Start a new composition...1440x1080, 1.33 pixel aspect ratio. Since you're doing 60i to 24p, set the comp frame rate to 24 fps.
Upon export you can choose 1440x1080, 1.33 pixels, or 1920x1080, with square pixels.

I did setup a 1440x1080 with the 1.333 "HDV 1080/DVCPRO HD 720" pixel aspect ratio. I unchecked "Lock Aspect Ratio ro 4:3" but my composition is always standard and not widescreen. My footage looks squeezed in the setup. What am I doing wrong?

And for frame rate, but I want 24 frames or 23.976?

Sorry, I don't the AE in front of me, but regarding the aspect ratio there is a little aspect ratio switch underneath the preview monitor. Switch that and your 16:9 footage should look fine.

HTH,
Phil
