greetings all.

Just got the diminutive, in size but not quality, SD-9 camcorder and I'm in need of help in how to deal with the files in FCP. I have a feeling I'll have to update to the latest FCP, I'm just on 6.0 something and maybe the latest quicktime. I downloaded that perian(sp) software and installed it but when I try to import into FCP through log and transfer it says file types aren't supported. Besided the possible need to upgrade to the latest versions, is there anything else I need to do to get to ingest the files into FCP? Do I need to run it through the Perian(sp) software first or maybe there's another method to use? Think I rememember there's a software conversion and if so how does one go about using it.

So far really impressed with everything about the cam.. has this intelligent menu option thing that swee ant it's so light, BUT it has the worst ever little joystick.. must make small nible hands in Japan as I hate the thing already..

cheers all for any and all advice and I'll post footage next week. Got a job for this fun little cam...

Download and install perian 1.1 and remember that you can only transcode from AVCHD to prores on an Intel Mac.

I didn't like the color saturation and reproduction on that SD9.

Greens were blue and yellow despite WB.

David I'm curious. Were you using this camera primarily/exclusively indoors? I still only have a few clips with mine but they were outdoors with plenty of green wooded scenery and I thought the colors looked fine.

Justyn: the converter you may be thinking of is by main concept. It's put out by panasonic to convert AVCHD files to DVCpro files (.mxf). Just do a search and it should come up on the panasonic website. I think there's a link to it in the sd9 product description as well.

I'd try David's method first if you're shooting 24p though. I still have to remove a pulldown and he gets straight 24 frame files.

Thanks guys. I do have one intel mac but that's not my main editing station. I'm still on a powerPC G5 till I can upgrade to a mac pro. I guess I could do the conversions on the macbook and convert.

I too would say that the footage looks really good. As good as the HV20 so far and without that aweful rolling shutter and no more digitizing. Digitizing Sucks and was so darn depressing after shooting with the HVX for 2 years. I don't want anymore stinking digititzing to do.

The other thing I've noticed. The camera is high tech. Way more than the HV20. It has so many "intelligence-based" features and simply incredible design... all except for the main menu joystick... which sucks. So far, so much happier than the HV20.... and it's so small you can carry it in your pants... hey that a camera in your pants or are you just happy to see me?

No pulldown removal on 24p.

I shot some golf courses, and the fairways looked yellow and bluish.

Very disappointed.

I hope I don't experience the same thing as I'm going to be shooting golf course aerials with this cam.... but well we'll see. I couldn't be anymore disappointed than I was in the HV20 and it's rolling shutter. Simply killed me from the vibration and jello making wobble that everything caused. That is the big elephant in the room with all of the CMOS cams that nobody really wants to talk about.

Actually those in my immediate circle that shoot a lot of sports are talking about it quite a bit. :D
