Workaround for shooting IR with Canon A1

I posed this question to Barry, who provided an answer (change to 24 using natress filters, but then I'll have to deal with rendering.) I'm just curious if anyone might have some other workarounds.
Here's the original question:
I have a quandary - I will be shooting a documentary where some of the scenes will have to be shot in almost complete darkness (and they won't let me use ANY artificial light). I intend to use the canon XH-A1 which does not have infrared capabilities. I intend to shoot in 24f. I was looking at the new cheap Sony HDR-HC7 which does shoot in IR but not 24 anything. So my question is this - is there anyway I can combine these 2 types of footage (i.e. 24f and 30 or 29.97 fps) in final cut pro where they will both properly play back? Or if anyone has any better suggestions, I'm all ears (or eyes, in this case.)
I came up with this idea last night, want to see what you guys think:
I shoot on the Sony HDR-HC7 and at the same time record to the canon via component inputs, thereby capturing the IR image in the canon. I know this system sounds cumbersome, but I will be fairly stationary and will probably only be shooting for a minute or 2 at a time. If this works, I rather go this route than deal with it in post. (of course sony says the Sony HDR-HC7 shoots in 24 fps, but I don't know how this will match to 24f.)
Any thoughts?
