Work flow help

I've been shooting on my t2i for about 2 months and still dont have my work flow dialed.

Off the card a convert everything to prores, save those to my hard drive and edit in FCP
exporting for vimeo I, export>using quicktime conversion
my settings are: compression type: h.264, Frame rate: current, keyframes: every 30, Data rate: auto, Quality: b/w high and best, multi pass
size: HD 1280x720

Is it possible that my computer is too slow, leading to the loss of quality in some way? it is a powerbook g4...

but it never seems to come out that well,

so, help improving that would be great,
thanks

Try changing your data rate. Something around 30Mb/s should be good for Vimeo.

Hellon,

I think you should follow the best settings recommendations which Vimeo provides here.

H.264 - Your original framerate (24/25/30 fps) - 5000 kbit/s for data rate - 1280*720

And Everything should work fine. It does for me.
Hope it helps.

i tried again with all the same setting, and the data rate at 5000kbit/s, and this was the result

the first link had dreadful IQ
I can't see the second one (it's password protected)

computer speed should not lead to IQ issues, just more time rendering the video

but I've never used FCP (or a mac, for that matter), so I can't say for sure

I usually export in the highest possible quality, then convert to H.264 15Mbps (for 1080p24) or 7Mbps (for 720p24) using handbrake, which I believe is available for mac; if it can convert from prores to H.264, that's your best bet for good IQ

i noticed something kind of odd, when i go to export from fcp under the size it says 423x237 (current), and i have to change i to 1280x720, but the files on my drive are all still 1280x720, and i just drag them into fcp?

i exported full quality in prores, and it still looks bad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NliGVE58Oww

it seems like the problem is that the resolution of your FCP project is defined as 423x237, so your footage gets downsampled to that, then upsampled in the final rendering

you'll get your solution as soon as a FCP user comes by

what does your sequence setting indicate?

I'm very confused as to how this could happen. I'm using FCP 6 and when I drag my Pro Res files to the timeline, it asks me to update the timeline settings to match the clip settings automatically...

Are you not getting this popup?

i was getting that popup, and saying yes, but it wasn't changing

new twist, i thought i had it figured out, but now when i make the sequence match the clips manually it wants me to render when i drag my footage in.

help!
