Work flow: DVX to PC??

I'm looking ahead to a project where I'll need to shoot some short interviews at a tradeshow and get them posted to YouTube or something similar, on almost a real time basis. I'd like to take my trusty 100B, but I will be without my equally trusty Mac and FCE platform.

The only computer I will have on site is a shiny new PC laptop (Windows 7) with no FireWire port. It does have an HDMI port if that matters. Anyhow, I can probably get whatever software I need, but how do I bridge that camera to computer gap?

What software should I be thinking about (that isn't horribly expensive) that will allow capturing from the camera and rudimentary editing?

How do I connect those two items? Is there some sort of usable FireWire to USB interface?? Does the HDMI help?

Ideas?? Thanks.

Software should come with the machine. Windows Movie Maker. If that is too rudimentary, then buy Sony Vegas Platinum for $90. But you're going to need an adapter to get that firewire hookup. That's the main problem.

HDMI won't help you. Not sure I've seen a USB to Firewire adapter either. Might have to be expresscard.

FW>USB adapter won't work. You'll need to get an Express Card with FireWire.

The other option, though much less ideal, is to get a USB-based video converter that takes composite video (RCA) and stereo audio. Yeah, you drop to an analog generation, but it may be less expensive and at least a little more expedient to the Web. FireWire is better, and you get what you pay for.

if the project will take you less than 30 days, shoot i would just say go and pick up adobes premier trial

Hmmm...I've been investigating the suggestions. Sadly, this new laptop doesn't have an express card slot. I can insert an SD card directly. Maybe that's trying to tell me something.

ive had the same problem going to my laptop and i wonder if theres any to connect firewire to pc laptop
help.

An ASUS something or other. Brand new, but nothing all that spectacular. It's adequate for typical office applications. I did discover that it has an SD card slot. For better or worse, it caused me to spring for a Panasonic HDC-TM700K. Maybe it's time to make the move to non-tape media. Sigh...

I was shooting over the weekend with my beloved 100B, and was reminded of how nice that picture quality is. Who needs HD?
