Won't Recognize Log & Transfer

Shot my first "real" gig with the HMC 150. I'm using a Mac Pro with FCP 6.0.5. I copied the entire directory structure from the SDHC card, placed it on the harddrive. FCP will not recognize the mts files in Log & Transfer. Gives me the "unsopported media/invalid directory structure" error message. I have used it the exact same way in the past and it has worked fine. I know there is footage on the files.

Help.

Eeek I don't know. You could get the footage by transcoding in Toast 9. Otherwise, I don't know how to get the footage off if they're not directly on the card

Followed your advice and trashed the preferences. Not sure if that did the trick however. . .here is what I discovered:

I did copy the entire structure beginning with the "Private" folder including the various subfolders beyond that point. I created a folder on the harddrive titled "HMC Raw" and copy everything on the card.

This is what I have found. If you dive too deep in the file structure, FCP seems to get confused. I had been navigating through the structure to the "BDMV" folder and then the "Stream" folder. At this point the MTS files appear, but are grayed out.

What I should have done was navigate only to the "Private" folder. The MTS files show up to be selected for transfer.

Thanks for the help.

The "deepest in" that you can go is the AVCHD folder under Private, as that's the top-level folder that retains the structure with AVCHDTN and BDMV, across both of which the metadata appears to be stored. Don't delete anything in any of the folders, and make sure you at least preserve both the AVCHDTN and BDMV, otherwise you'll have to use Toast, for instance, to transcode the MTS straight-up, which will not retain your metadata such as original timecode.

A friend of mine had the same problem. Our solution was to reformat the card, then drag the files from the desktop back onto the card. Worked like a charm. I think we had to drop the files into the "private" folder... and delete any other folders on the card.

Strange. I uploaded one three second file and I have to go throught this pathway to get to the thing: AVCHD---BDMV---STREAM. Does anyone know why a small file such as this creates five folders and multiple pathways? And what do those multiple folders (AVCHDTN, BDMV, CLIPNF, PLAYLIST, STREAM) mean? Why doesn't the MTS just show up by itself? Perhaps this just indicative of the impossibly complicated logartihms that are endemic to computers, e.g., to turn off a computer you have to click "Start", "Shutdown" and then "Shutdown" again on the drop down window?
