Wonder what the next fest will be...

But then there wouldn't be feedback for the filmmakers and they couldn't create a buzz.

I think it would be interesting. It would throw out any thoughts that this may be a "popularity contest". I would go for it, although I think we would still need some sort of theme or basic idea of what it needs to be about otherwise they would be too different to compare.

The 'popularity' syndrome does exist but it's a double edged sword. These people will most likely get more votes on the easy buzz they have created but they have chiseled away a track record of good solid flicks to get where they are.

I think it's just about nailing down and entering each fest, getting better with each short and gaining momentum and the respect of others. That said, if I could only take my own advice...

Possibly in getting the short viewed initially. But I think if some unknown came along and created a masterpiece it would generate buzz pretty quickly. I think the amount of time for voting is sufficient for this to happen.

I liked the zip files this time around. If everyone had a great net connection this would be a good way to encourage people to watch more shorts.

But seriously this time around, if WTHL doesnt win, I will have the same reaction as when Russel Crowe didnt win an oscar for Beautiful mind.

Agree 100 % with that Noel. I've heard so many good things about the shorts this time around - I can't wait to finally (hopefully) download them tonight.

There is something to what you say. But just to point out. Mark Johnson and Co. have gotten hammered (in the non alchoholic sense) in past fests though their threads have always been every bit as ridiculous and huge as their thread is this time. But in terms of placement I'm sure they won't get hammered (in the non alcoholic sense) this time.

Also I entered anonymously for Spy Fest and still placed.

Also it seems like most of the heavy contenders with one or two exceptions are from fairly unknown members who have reasonable sized threads.

Having said that I would be for an anonymous fest.

But it seems like the threads are of great networking and educational benefit and make a bigger build up to the fest and a make for a bigger fest so I doubt we'll see them go anytime soon.

This is how I won 2nd in Zombie fest and how Snodart one 2nd place in Hero fest, and Spidey won 2nd on Sci Fest, etc.

Could be, though I found it to a tough choice between that film and another very different movie.

But just to underscore again - the Mark Johnson frat party thread has ALLWAYS been huge and popular and they've never placed.

I was thinking that the mods could create the forums, which would allow for feed back and reviews, but will still allow the filmmakers to stay anonymous.

And filmmakers could post ads for help, like the Lovefest Personals, but all the business would be taken care of off the boards.

I don't care what the next fest is so long as somebody has to pull their glasses off dramatically at 01:30.

OK... if not that then everybody has to do a musical... broadway style.

Oh my God! I love it! I am going to do this anyway, as long as it's okay with you. (?) I'll give you credit as "The Guy Who Had The Awsomely Sweet Idea To Have [character name] Pull Off His Glasses At 1:30"
