Wonder what the next fest will be...

Would dvxuser ever venture into asking people to crew up, make bigger films and raise the stakes on prizes?
Um, that's basically exactly what's been happening with the DVXFest. Every time we do it the films are bigger and better and the prizes are bigger and better... we're already giving away bigger prizes than most established film festivals!

I guess it does make sense - the mods must look at threads like these and it must somehow sway their decision.
Of course it does. This is a user fest for, about, and by the users. But sometimes we push the envelope. I can say fairly confidently that *nobody* clamored to have a DramaFest or a LoveFest; Barry_S picked those themes to challenge the users and see what you'd come up with. The results have been, hands down, the two strongest fests with by far the best filmmaking in them. Y'all responded incredibly well and we're all just so proud! :) Personally I applaud Barry_S for making such a bold choice for LoveFest.

On the other hand, Hallows Fest, SpyFest, Sci-Fest, and ZombieFest have all been direct picks from what the users asked for.

So, whatever gets picked for the next fest, whether it's a user request or another left-field "growth" genre, well... you'll just have to stay tuned to see!

I'm tuned, Barry!

These festivals are a great experience. It is really amazing to see the growth around here in the short time that I have been a part of it. Both from the users as well as from the Mods (in making everything run smoother, gaining greater prize packages, etc...)

Keep up the great work!

We tried that and it kind of flopped, but now that the filmmaking has grown in quality so much it's probably time to try it again. I'd definitely like to see that here!

It could be a good experience for aspiring filmmakers - a qausi studio filmmaking experience. Five to six page scripts are reviewed by DVXUsers, voted on and then greenlit for production.

Screenwriting credit goes to the writer and sponsors underwrite the physical production. Producers, Director, DPs, editor, composer and down through the crafts all apply for the job and then execute it.

What an experience this could be for anyone who wants to do a "studio" feature.

I'd like to see a screenwriting contest. Not instead of, but as a separate event on DVXUser. Perhaps the screenplay that is voted best screenplay would go on to be produced by a core of users.

That's a hurdle there at the end, but it would be an interesting exercise.

I LOVE THIS IDEA! Being a writer myself, this speaks to my heart. I would love to be able to just write and be able to put all my efforts into just the script.

I believe the DVX film fest format is excellent. If it came down to having a writing competition - it should be kept separate and leave it up to the members to personally decide to work together.

Separate deal for sure. No telling how many people would enter to begin with.

So far there's three. =B HUR HUR

That's an awesome idea. I'd definitely write something for that. That is one of the areas I really want to grow in, and love.

A writing fest would most definitely have to be kept separate from the Film Fests, as they are two completely different animals. But I think we should do both.

Instead of
"Where the heart lies"

"Where the rest of his head lies" (You have to watch the short to get that)

I like the idea of a writing contest. But what would the stips be? We would have to make sure that ideas aren't stolen and put into films... although I really dont think we have an integrity problem here...but just a thought.

Hmmm...I suppose there would be requirements as there are in the film fests, like an object, or maybe because it's a script, a certain line of dialogue. I agree that there isn't an integrity problem, but maybe there would need to be some sort of something to protect the writers. I don't know what that would be though.

PS: I like the "Where The Rest of His Head Lies" idea, haha.

Screenplays heavy with cliche, borrowed and / or stolen devices would naturally get weeded-out via the voting process. Six pages, subject to be determined by the organizers.

As far as protections go, the screenwriter would submit their copywritten script as you would to a studio - except you don't need a literary agent to do so. The author grants DVXUser a zero-money option for production in the event that their short is chosen. All the other screenplays would revert back to the authors when the winner is chosen. Again, we're talking about bespoke screenplays for short films, which have a very limited place in the market as stand-alone works - even in their finished form.

Again, I think this would be a completely separate situation from the DVXUser film festivals.
