With the new announcements, what happens with the 5dII?

I've got a guy holding a brand new 5DII for me that I [was?] about to buy for 2K even. Is the price going to drop now or what? I've been waiting for the 5dIII for WAY too long, and I really want to go full frame for stills now (I own a 7D)

The announced 4K DSLR says it's still in the concept/development phase, but it sounds like that's what I've been waiting for (assuming it's photo capabilities are on par with the 5dII). Do we have any idea whatsoever on where we stand on release of this cam? 3 months or 1 year? Canon kind of went out of their bubble by showing it already, so I'm assuming I know as much as the rest.

Maybe I'll sell my 7D and just pick up a used 5DII. Or just pull the trigger on the 5DII and then sell them both when there's a release date on the 4K DSLR. Or just wait a few weeks and see what happens. Ugh... I have no idea...

I really doubt the 300 is going to have much effect on the 5DMKII market since we're talking about a pretty major price difference. The 5D is and will still be a very nice camera and for the money, I'd buy a Scarlet-X or a 5D way before the 300.

The F3 never became a "DSLR killer," nor did the AF100, so seeing as how the 5D is still very much in demand by clients, I'm good with it.

Nothing changes. The 5D Mark II is still a very good 1080p camera, the best in terms of DSLR video to some, at least until the 1DX comes out. If you have a 7D, you should be more or less okay in terms of video until the next big cam, but yeah, the 5D Mark II is very nice for stills in the meantime. I actually find myself using my 5D Mark II more for stills work than anything but now I'm trying to make stock video on Pond5, so that keeps me shooting (BabsDoProd is my Pond5 artist name, by the way).

As you said, that 4K DSLR concept is a bit aways and I would say more a year off than a few months. If you really need something better for video in the meantime, you've got the Sony FS-100 and even the new Scarlet to consider. The Scarlet is pretty interesting because even though the stills will be less megapixels, at least you'll have HDRx as an option. One other option that could be pretty cool is the Sony NEX-7, high megapixels and 1080p video at an interesting price point, but I'd wait for a few final reviews to see if it's really all that great as it seems. Overall, it may be best to wait a few weeks just for everything to settle after today because, who knows, maybe Canon will make a bold move of some kind to counteract the surprise Scarlet release.

Didn't they also announce the upcoming "mk III"... it's just not going to be a mk III but an evolved hybrid between the 5D and 1D.

I see them changing the name to something else, so you won't get a 5D. And then keep the 7D alive for the serious hobby guys.

Too bad the price point of the C300 is going to be that steep. If I was about to deal with that kind of money I'd rather takes the extra step and go for an Epic. Also compact primes that are more expensive than the CP.2s...

For now I'm happy with having upgraded the 5D to an FS100. My next purchase will be a RED...

The form factor is still 1D, no replacement for the 5D anywhere in sight.

Well for me personally nothing changes. I'm not a professional stills photographer but I still take great looking pictures with my 5D, as a DP I love the images I can produce with the 5D for Digital Cinema projects. I realize there are a great deal of work arounds that I go through and it does have it's limitations but I have no complaints about its quality if used within it limits.

The 5DM3 is a concept as I understand it so that means you can probably pinch a pig to death before you'll see it. The 300C I'm sure will be a great camera for those who can afford it. I can't afford it currently and more importantly, I can't justify the expense with the caliber clients I have. So the 5D and I are in this for the long haul unless of course the 1D just blows me away when it's out but it may be to far up the price chain for me as well.

Thanks for the replies, gentlemen. Meh, screw it, I'm picking up a 5D to go along with my 7D for now. Cheers!
